Valve Seat Material?
« on: June 24, 2016, 05:57:27 PM »
If I were to decide to put hard-seats in my 18/1, what material would be suggested? Are there any particular seats you have used and prefer? I'm sure what is best for a dragster is not necessarily the best choice for a 750 RPM single cylinder diesel...

These diesels do not require much hardening or special materials for good performance from the valve seats. They originally were just soft cast iron (valve face against head casting). I know that 38ac does a very nice job with installing replacement seats and he can comment on what materials and types he prefers and uses.

Since my catalog is not handy I cannot give you the material type but the ones I use are from Qualcast a d nothing fancy, just tell standard grade powdered metal insert. They machine easily aan work harden in use.
