Lister SR2 (ST2?) - my generator has just died - help needed on diagnosis!

Hi

I have a very old farmyard Lister SR2 (poss ST2 - unsure) hooked up to an unmarked generator - looks like a Brush - but unsure with a TW Electric distribution panel on top - wired up to some lighting via an MCB and fuse panel.

It died suddenly.  On opening it up I discovered that the brushes were pretty worn down so I replaced those  - but no joy. 

Can anyone point me to a good resource for troubleshooting this - I'm new to this world I'm afraid.

For starters please get us some pictures of your generator... either post here if you can or provide a link.
