Start o matic Shipping weight
« on: January 30, 2015, 09:29:52 PM »
Hi All

Would anyone have an idea on the all up shipping weight for CS 8/1, base, control panel and generator, before I put a bid I can't honour on Ebay!!

Many thanks

Stef
Tighten 'til it strips, weld nut to chassis, peen stud, adjust with angle grinder.

My 6/1 and generator was about 535kg or 1180 lbs.

Cast iron base? That is probably another couple hundred lbs.

@dieselspanner:
Your shipping costs will most likely be calculated on volume rather than weight. That said, I shipped a 6/1 Startomatic last year (oops, in 2013)
It was measured at 2.032 CBM and gross weight of 800Kg. I did pay according to volume, shipped from Europe.
Also here is a link to a thread that shows a Lister Spec page with weights for several models, including 6/1 Starto. Scroll to bottom, courtesy of Listeroil.
http://listerengine.com/smf/index.php?topic=6253.0
The link shows net weight @ 1516 Lbs Gross weight @ 1934 Lbs. for the 6/1, 1624 and 2168 Lbs respectively for the 8/1
The Starto generator is much heavier than we are used to seeing, the generator pulley/flywheel alone weighs in at about 80 Lbs. Base is quite heavy as well. It's a serious piece of kit.
Cheers,
Hugh

There is no spec for the 8/1 in that brochure. Those numbers are for FR model engines.

@ Bronco
Right you are, the thread does show FR weights and measures in the bottom right corner. In any case, My shipping volume and weight will be nearly the same as 8/1, maybe a bit more due to the larger generator. The unit in question comes with cooling tank and fuel tank. I had a fuel tank, but no cooling tank, so volume may be a bit more as well.
Try this thread for a bit more info: http://listerengine.com/smf/index.php?topic=7030.0

Cheers,
Hugh

Stef,
From memory, there is little weight difference if any, between the 6-1 and the 8-1 SOM sets where the 8-1 set is fitted with the "thin boy" type of alternator.  If the one your`e considering is what I think it is, it looks like a "thin boy" type.
Will see if I can look up the actual weights of the one I weighed some time ago.

Mark.

Thanks for that, lads,

3/4 of a ton (one of your diddy US ones!) +/- seems about it, anyway looks like it'll be ok for a pallet.

Cheers All
