Hey "ronsmith"!!

Very similar to what I plan to do. How are you regulating your charge?  I want to charge about 800 to 1000 ah of batteries. Been looking at the  the "Mark 8" that is described in a file at the Homepower site;

http://www.homepower.com/files/mark8.pdf

Still mulling over whether to get a 3.5hp Mini or a full size 6hp Petter.

3.5hp will spin a Chrystler 70 amp Alternator....

Get an old one from the 70's with an externaly regulator, these realy charge well, and they're simple. Add an on/off switch for the field so its easier for the Petter to start and get up to speed.

A 3 HP Briggs and an alternator like this charged batteries at my camp for 20 years. You don't need a fancy regulator. Never let batteries go below 80% charge if you can help it and its less strain on the charging system and your batteries will last longer.

Sounds like you have a mini Petter, thats the 80mm stroke crank. My price list says thats a 20 USD part in India hopefuly you can get one.

Any Indian manufaturers reading this that would accept PayPal? You could sell us lots of parts that way!

Yes that would be very nice, trouble is to wire money to India the way I did would cost more than the crank.
