Introduction - newguy
« on: July 12, 2012, 09:12:59 PM »
Hi Everyone,
At long last I've finally got it right to be able to join your illustrous company ! THANKYOU. Strange things happen here in South Africa especially at night when it's time to stop dear old Petunia from huffing and puffing to supply my home with electricity each day - you know like lions and things waiting to add a bit of spice along the pathway to my engine room during some rather  lonely times. Dear Petunia was born during the late 1940's and in 2004  I was lucky to spot her abandoned in an old cattle kraal, covered in cowdung with just her two tappet covers sticking out.She cost me 1000 rands (around 120 USD at today's rate) and a seriuos session of Witblitz (S.African moonshine) with the owner before I was allowed to load her up and take her home. I overhauled her completely after getting most of the information I needed from your Lister Engine Forum. I hooked her up with a 12 KW alternator and have been using her to power my home for 8 solid trouble free years! What a LADY.  If any of you guys get this post it would be nice to hear from you and I will try to post some photos of Petunia and where she lives.

Welcome.  Your critters must make it interesting!  When I head out to my shop I do not worry about being eaten!  LOL

Welcome aboard, do you run this engine every day?  great to hear you have gotten 8 trouble free years since your rebuild.  How many hours have you put on it in those 8 years?

Welcome Zulu....Glad to see someone who values these grand old girls and actually names them.  Mine's named Penelope and was found much like yours sitting in a field after being abandoned for years, cylinder full of water, everything else seized up.  I paid much the same for her as you did for Petunia, which is just about what scrap cast iron brings around here.

Looking foward to your pictures.
