Hi, that`s a tidy looking Blackstone MP you have there, they seem to be as rare as hens teeth over here in the UK, apart from the odd OP that is offered for sale these horizontal enc crank engines are rarely seen,  I understand that there are many still running in Iran and other middle eastern countries.
The E4 is heavy old lump, I know through personal experience as I bought a Mirlees Blackstone ( yet another rebranding/takeover ) ES4 750 Rpm 240 Kva genset, the engine alone is 6500 Kgs and displaces 45 litres, the equivalent modern high speed engine does the same job with a third of the displacement and a sixth of the weight, unfortunately because of this many of these large ( small by marine standards) engines with all their English engineering lineage are destined to be turned into tuppence halfpenny imports but thats progress.
It would be interesting to know how one of these compares on longevity with say a Cat or Cummins on a Hp hour basis between major overhauls.

Mark.

If the Iranians ever get around to overthrowing their gov't I'm sure there will be a group of people looking to make a trip there to gather some of that old iron.  The iranian rial is worth next to nothing, they are desperate for hard currency.

Yep, I'm looking for hard currency here in the US too.  Gold and silver are way overpriced, so cast iron is my choice!  Especially if it runs on diesel, although I have been lusting over a gas (propane) burner as well.
Witte 98RC Gas burner - Kubota D600 w/ST7.5KW head.
I'm not afraid to take anything apart.
I am sometimes afraid I'm not going to get it back together.

Gary, The complete outfit was advertised for around 14K  Besides the starting engine they are sellling out bits and pieces. My notion is I am going to get a phone call in the next six months saying we have been offered X for scrap, do you want it for that?

If it wasn't almost in my back yard my interst would be zero too. it aint far from zero at that. Hopefully some engine club or museum will want it?

If you can get a float cheap it could sit on that for a while, this story is an opportunity for the right person !  Can you just feel the thunder of that big boy running as you stand there in your greasy coveralls tending to the little bits and signing autographs for all the cute little engine groupie chicks !! You could fashion a seat up and sell them rides  ;D   ;)
