daggone it
« on: September 26, 2011, 04:39:34 PM »
Was an action Saturday in NY with a collection of English engines. I didn't attend but bid via Proxybid.  I couldn't afford to own too many so I bid on a Ruston Hornsby and a Petter but didn't bid on this CS Lister because I allready own one. Ended up not getting the engines I bid on and missed the CS that only brought $900 >:( Oh well, maybe next time.

Yes Dieselgman, the way I figure anyway?  They were sold as "restored" a term that has an entirely differant meaning in England than in the states but none the less it was a running condition. Sale was a smidgen too far away to travel to and come home empty handed, first time I have bid on-line for a live auction.

Those auctions are hard to do via computer... I wanted a batch of military Listers pretty bad from one of the big auction houses earlier this year, but could not get it done with time delays and such. If I were there in person, another story I'm sure. The old competitive nature being what it is! But who has the time to chase around to get these bargains?

Best of luck next time!

Was it this auction?  There was also a Argentinian Pampa tractor, a Lanz Bulldog licensed copy.  High bid was $50!!!, guess it didn't meet the reserve.

Just goes to show that engines prices are flat right now although I,m surprised that New Way fetched 800, thats top dollar for that unit.

It would have been nice if the link had been posted before the auction so others knew about it.

Yes, it would have meant that folks would have had to compete.

It would have also meant that we could have worked together and had someone there to bid on our behalf and we might have ended up having a chance at some of the stuff.

Lots of cool stuff there.

I found it after the OP.  The hint to find it was the ProxyBid comment.

Right now I'm lusting after an itty-bitty electric car from the 70's fuel crisis.  If I lived in or near Chicago I'd bid on it.  Would be good for running around the acreage, at least that is my excuse.

Almost weekly people post of their finds and purchases on here, do you feel the same about them as me? that they should have made sure you had a shot before they purchased? Or is an auction differant than answering a want ad or purchasing an engine from a neighbor? Sorry but I really have no understanding,, absolutely none, for your appearant attitude that I have wronged everyone here who had not one clue that the engines were sold and still would not today if I had not posted about it. ???

I have amassed a large database of sites that I search from daily to weekly. I have contacts that call and let me know when things are for sale because I PAY them for their efforts, one way or another. Largely because of these efforts, just in the last 6 months or so I know of at least 10 slow speed Lister diesels that have come up for sale and sold, maybe 4-5 Rustin's, at least 4 upright Bamfords. It takes a lot of time and effort AND MONEY  to keep up with it,,,,, but whatever, the point here being the knowledge of the auction didn't come for free.  I freely admit however  that even if an engine were to fall in my lap while asleep on the glider  I would in the blink of an eye make the purchase without making sure it is OK with the engine community at large :-\

If all that makes me something less than I should be I guess I am  I am guilty as charged.

Butch,

I appreciate your forthrightness and willingness to share your finds! I think this will help people understand a little better about how to go looking for these things.

Thanks, and keep up with sharing! You are an inspiration in that regard.

If anything ever came up anywhere REMOTELY near me I can guarantee I'd buy it first, and let y'all know about it later.  I let a Witte Dieselectric slip through my hands cause I couldn't round up a trailer to haul it 250 miles home.

Hauling it home?  There are always others that will haul your "investment" home - - - - - - - - - For a price.

I bought a generator system some 180 miles away while I was another 2700 miles away.  Keep the Faith.  Craigslist and four days brought Dave and I together.  He dropped off the unit, >1200 pounds, two days after that.  Did a couple of flakes call - yes.  Did a couple of really well meaning but couldn't walk and chew gun at the same time call - yes.  Is there risk.  Wanna buy my Charter Communications stock?

Casey

Oh, I wouldn't have listed the Craigslisting on this site until I was sure that I wasn't going to buy it for myself - sorry lads.  OK, I'm a Yankee - shoot me in the morning.

I don't think I'm alone in looking out for #1 first and then passing along the "intelligence", must be the American way! You can also shoot me in the morning.
