Oblong Illinois Engine show, 2011
« on: July 05, 2011, 04:24:45 AM »
Again I'm planning to go to the Oblong engine show and bring some Listers.  If all goes well, Butch, from Ohio, will bring his beautiful Bamford and 6-1 Lister that has been restored.  I'll have the VA compressor and others.  What is unique is that 3 of these engines were purchased at the George Helmuth estate sale last November.  Others went through his shop one time or another.  James, Georges son, will be with us.  That has to be a source of pride seeing a piece of his Dad legacy carrying on.

If you are able to make it, please stop by and say hello.  Dates are Aug 12, 13, 14

Busy time of year for us but we are going to do our best to be there with the engines. The Helmuth collection was truely amazing and I am proud to have custody of a couple of them.

Bob,
I live in West Lafayette and my father-in-law lives in Terra Haute.  My Lister CS (1939) just showed up today and I look forward to seeing ones working while I go through the process of refurbishing the engine.  Look forward to seeing you in August!

I'll be looking for you Joe.  We need to hear the story on your engine too.  Since you are close, you are welcome to come over and visit.

Getting ready for the Oblong engine show. I loaded up the trailer with the big engines and promptly blew another tire. Happens every time. DO NOT BUY CARLISLE TIRES. Pure junk and all customer service refused.

Too many big engines? Maybe you need some extra heavy tires for that trailer!

We will be there Friday and Saturday with Listers and our Bamfords and there is talk of another fellow being there with his 6/1. Should be about as much English diesel equipment and knowledge as one will find in one spot in this country. I lam looking forward to it.

Here is a video clip of Butch and my display.  You will see and hear the air compressor kick up from idle to working speed.  We had a great two days.  Made a batch of ice cream and had a lot of folks enjoying a free cool treat on a warm day!

Here is a slide shop of some pictures I took.  Noted are Butch Cherrington's and Tom Jamboretz's engines along with a couple that I took.

Gee Paul, we'll have to check into that.  HAHA  If I point the fan at the air inlet of the VA will it fill up the fuel tank too?

Joe with the new 6-1 came to visit and a man from Louisville looked me up.  Gary IIRC. Another forum soon to be member.  Interesting discussions about some pretty cool defense devices that he works on.

Thanks Robert, I had a good time at the show but it sure was hard to stay awake with the gentile pop pop op of the Listers going all day long, LOL. The oilfield equipment display was also very good. We will be back.
