where to get fuel filters?
« on: May 18, 2011, 03:14:28 AM »
Guess I wanted too much for my  Carroll Stream 1115 so it's going back into prime power back up. Looked all the way through my Fleetguard filter master catalog dimensional data today looking for eliments for the fuel filter and got a blank. First time that has ever happened :o. So where do you guys get filters?  Or do I just get a filter head and adapt? Book says its a Changfa but I wouldn't bet anything valued on it.

Pretty close to topic is:

Where would I find the specifications for the different oil filters?

I have a Ford spin-on receiver and wondered if any place gave the specs for the different models that are available for this receiver?

I found a PDF from Fram here:

http://www.framcatalog.com/RelatedInfo.aspx?b=F&f=FRAM/FPR2010.pdf

If you click on "Full Flow Oil Filters", it takes you to page 277 where it lists the diameter, length, and thread size for every Fram filter.  If you know what filter already fits the bracket, you should be able to look up the thread size and then find other filters with the same thread size.  Many brackets will accept several different size of diameters, so measure first.  I think the diameter is the diameter of the can, not the diameter of the gasket that seals to the base, so you may have to buy one and try it.

I'm not endorsing Fram, but the information could be useful to cross reference to your favorite brand.

I'm not afraid to take anything apart.
I am sometimes afraid I'm not going to get it back together.

Thanks Thob,

I haven't heard anything "outstanding" about Fram either.  The good news is that the site let me find out that their "high performance" filters only go down to 18 micron.  So I'm assuming a standard duty any make filter should work just fine as a pre-filter for my drying / centrifuge pump on my oil cleanup station.  I'm told the bracket is for a Ford.  I'd like to find a non bypass filter.
