Hi chaps, finally registered after a few attempts!
I've picked up an LR1 which is currently set for 750 rpm, but got a replacement speeder spring to up this to 1175 for 2.5hp. Got a 3-phase 3.7kW motor I'm going to drive with appropriate pulleys at the same -ve slip over synchronous as it's rated peak output +ve slip so hopefully peak efficiency for generation - should be able to get 1.5kVA with appropriate caps.
So far I've set the exhaust and inlet valve clearances for the higher RPM, just need to make governor pivot adjustment and rack adjustment for the higher RPM before the new spring can be fitted.
On trouble is that the original speeder screw was bent and had to be cut short to remove from the side from the engine for access to the gov, it looks like 3" 3/16 BSF, still hunting a replacement for that!

Fancy seeing you here Well I'm going for 80% efficiency so 2.5 hp should give 1.5kW. The induction motor I've got in mind is 3.7kW, so possible to push out 3kW if the engine RPM was upped even more - just that the aircooled Lister is more likely to annoy the neighbours run at 2500 RPM!

I know nothing about the LR1 except they won't heat the bath water. What will you use for fuel? Veg is too expensive! My 8hp CS gives 4.5kva so that's about 3.5kw and I recon 6kwh of hot water.

How is everyone there? I don't get much chance to go on now. I'm making the most of the British summer and building my CHP, when I get chance. The internet is for winter time when all is done (or it's too cold to do anymore).

Not too much, us biodiesellers have learnt a few new tricks like recovering jelly batches, getting lots of pure Methanol back for the next batch or pretreating waste oil with the glycerol from the last batch, but aside from that business as usual! Making bio in summer is sooo easy, glad just to have survived the last winter without a visit to the forecourts.

What are you going to do with the power? Capacitive voltage regulation isn't all that great on an induction motor turned generator...

Most likely small inline immersion heater (~1kW). May well end up running a pump (mechanically) off the engine too as well as scavaging some exhaust heat. Mostly I'm just tinkering with the possibility of making biodiesel using veg/bio as the energy source while heating my outbuilding in the winter.
