What is a Listard?

I have seen a very nice 1940's 6/1 with a Listard plate on it!

It’s the Van der Horst patent process for Chrome plating cylinder liners.

It involved reversing the elecrical current in-process to fracture the finish on the cylinder bore to improve oil penetration.

I though it might be a derogatory description for people who like to mess around with Listers.

If you re-ring this engine, be sure to use cast iron rings.  NOT CHROME RINGS.  Chrome rings in a chrome plated cylinder will score the walls.  OK to use chrome rings in a iron cylinder.
