Dual Cylinder Versus Single Cylinder
« on: June 19, 2010, 03:40:28 PM »
 Guys ,
Newbie Question .I Plan To Make a Generator Using a 12.5 KVa Alternator .I Think Either a 16 or 20 HP Should Do The Job As I Plan To Run 2 AC of 1.5 Tonns Each And General Household .According To My Brain AC will Consume 9 To 12 Amps Each .Now Whats The difference If i Buy Single Or Dual Cylinder Engines ?????

You would need the 20 HP.
My choice would be a twin as the load is distributed between 2 cylinders as opposed to 1, sounds obvious but a single cylinder engine of this age of design would be under too much stress in my opinion. I don't know what revs the higher power single Listeroids are turning at but it must be much higher than 650 RPM so the benefits of a slower running engine are lost. The twin however can turn slower for the same power so less stress , noise, lower fuel consumption, lower wear etc.

Sir ,
Thanks For The Same .Have a Look At The Field Marshal Range Added To My website .All Tech Details Are There .The Lister single Cylinder After 8 HP Are All 1000 RPM Boss .

That's what I thought, 1000 RPM for this design is not good and conflicts with the original design philosophy.

Ahha ,
So What Do You think We Should Run The Dual Cylinder Engines At .This is Hypothetical Questions Cos until The Engine Is Not There In Hand Its impossible To Tell The Sweet Spots

Well if you reduce the speed the power is also reduced so you should be aware of that. Personally I wouldn't run these engines at more than 850 RPM.

Point Noted ,
But Then How Does One Drive a 12.5 Alternator ,Might Be Take a 24/2 and Run At 850

Thats correct, it's a case of using a larger engine and de-rating.
