Hello,

I'm affiliated with a team of engineering students at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. We're working to install a Lister engine multifunction platform in Ghana, Africa this summer. The Lister engine will be used to pump water for a village of 8000 people and to provide electrical power for a health clinic.

We are trying to gain hands-on experience with this engine before we leave for Africa. Everything we have learned thus far has been found in documentation and forums that we've studied online and over the phone through vendors and equipment specialists.

We are looking for someone within driving distance (i.e. Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Chicago or Detroit area, or Ontario) who would be willing to offer some time on a weekend (between now and July 10) to show us how to operate and perform basic maintenance on a Lister engine. We will use this experience to engineer our system for the village that we will be working in. We will also write up a standard operating procedure and maintenance guideline to share with the African community who we provide this system to, so that they will know how to properly operate and maintain it for a long service life.

Here is a google map so that you can see where we are located:

Thank you for any help!
Charles

We did order Mr. Breckenridge's Lister Engine CD from utterpower.com. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi Charles

I do not have a lot of experience with them. I got as far as pulling off the big crankcase cover and cleaning out the sand. Bled the injector and ran mine some. But that is all. I have no knowledge of how to rebuild one. But if you just want to start and run one I can do that. I have a 14-1 with a 12kv generator head. My brother has a 6-1 that we want to put a alternator on this year and take to our off grid property in the UP. But I do not know if that is going to happen as I have a lot of projects I need to get done first.

I live in Britton MI. 10 miles west of Cabelas exit 17 on US 23. I am laid off right now and am looking for a job. I run heavy equ and once I get to work I am usually very busy. And I spend a lot of time at our place in the UP.

This is my lister

Charles I guess I don't have you email address at home. I have it on work email and I am off till Tuesday. I sent to boxes today with your trash pump in them. I had to put in 2 because it would not fit in one. I hope it will be usable. You can contact me at  mlisenby.ditchdr@cox.net  if you have any questions. I would expect you to get it Monday or Tuesday. Good luck. Mike

With that belt setup, are you able to spin the generator at 1800 RPM?

Bob
Faster - Better - Cheaper  You can have any two, but not all three

Hi Bob

If you are talking to me. Yes the engine is running at 980 rpm for 1800 rpm on the generator. Its a 14-1 and is supposed to run at 1000 rpm. I don't think loosing 20 rpm will hurt anything I was thinking of slowing it down to run 800 rpm but changed my mind at the last minute.
