Hi Bill, That was my second attempt. I know how to put the pics up but I forget which link to use to get them to show.
Why are these dampers called ‘residential’? Do they deaden the sound that much?
I have read of tanks being buried in the ground and then the exhaust fed into that, same principle I guess.

Mark.

So mine is an indoor silencer. I'll put it indoors then.

or

We've got a couple of the slightly shorter ones, together with the flanges, had them shot blasted and Zinc sprayed before powder coating.

I’ve finally got round to trying my 8/1 SOM. It’s been stood for ten years but after a quick check over I put some batteries, and a load on it, and it turned over, but I didn’t try starting it. The shaft that operates the oil pump was stuck but freed up ok. The only other problems, that I can see, are the fuel pump tappet isn’t moving and the pump piston may be stuck. I’ll have to study the manual!
It all wants re wiring but at least the main components seem ok. So far, so good. Hopefully I’ll soon be putting some smock into that damper!

Fuel pump tappet fixed and it is now a runner again. I’m glad it was fairly easy for my first one. I have great admiration for you guys who have them ‘out of fields’ and get them working again.
Anyone got any suggestions for anti vibration/insulation between the concrete bed and metal base frame? I now have to make it as quite as possible!

About the base problem: I mounted the engine on a welded steel base that was filled inside with concrete and it weighes about 600 pounds. The base has 4 base pads which sit on rubber vibration pads and are bolted to the concrete floor. All is good. I can send photos if you like.

If you could post up some pics then that would be good. Do you have purpose mad pads? I was thinking of using thick rubber from wagon mud flaps. I haven’t fixed it to anything yet as it was just a test run to see if it works but I think I did detect some vibration amongst the shear momentum of the unit and having no silencer fitted. I gave up detecting when the garage filled with smoke.  ;D
Such a great thrill when the start to move again!

Could someone help me date a Lister? Serial @ is CE 10303. It is a 16/2. If someone would just let me know where to go I might be able to figure it out. The owner of this engine gave ne the number. If thisis not a good number I will have the engine today or tomorrow. Thanks, Mike
