Red Oxide Primer
« on: February 05, 2010, 10:55:53 AM »

Hello All,

Having looked on stationaryengineparts for mid brunswick green, and reading that the recommended primer is the grey primer that they also sell, Would red oxide primer

also be suitable? As i already have some in the workshop. I don't want to prime the old girl and then find that the top enamel coat reacts with the red oxide!

Cheers,

George

I couldn't imagine that the red oxide would cause you any problems with the paint not sticking to it. If you want really good primer get the zinc oxide they use on boats.

I found some original bright red paint on the fan, and a couple of other parts on my 1949 6/1.  The red bits were hidden under other parts and thus preserved.

Just a tip, you can also use white primer Wink only the color is different.
I prefer white because when you apply the final coat it is very easy to see what spots you have missed during painting.
Also when you use a color like green on white it does not get mixed up, also the opacity (is this right??) is much higer then red under green.
