« on: April 19, 2006, 10:17:45 PM »
It's only just occured to me i have no idea how old my CS6/1 is, i could age my SR1 with numbers on the engine plate, but i can't find any coherent numbering on the CS for to work from.

Any ideas?

Them Englishmen can sure confuse a simple saying like "Tit for Tat".

I always figured 'tat' had to be either whiskey or candy.  :P ???

You smoke a chesterfield, I lay on one ( sofa in Yank ), and the limies are of the opinion its a large leather chair.

Eaves Trough (Canadian), Rain Gutter ( Yank ) I wounder what its called in english?

Trench and duckboard ( Candian english, probably the same in England when we talk about drainage and ways to keeps ones feet dry ) Ditch and plank ( Yank ).

Colour ( Spelled correctly ) color ( Yank )

Labour ( Candian, oh how we love our "'U" )

On to the French, no I'll spare you that. Best just to say the Beligions are wrong and leave it at that!!!

you _do_ realise that many yank spellings, such as labor, color, etc, are in fact the old english spellings, and haven't evolved, whereas labour and colour are the result of evolved over time english, as a result of all those other european countries on the doorstep etc...

oh, and canucks (phoenetic) "saw-der" pisses me off no end, it is pronounced "sould-der" - solder

Yes your right about the Solder thing even I say it though I try and correct myself, frankly I'm lucky that I don't speak broken english when I cut out the swears. That kind of thing is typical of Candian English depending on region. Up here in the Nickel City there is a large French speaking community and many pronounciations of English words are coloured by French. I tend to drop H's in phrases like "He's out with the wife or" or slid a D in place of a T in "That's not the way". It get worse talking around Newfies and others from the east coast who came up here in the 60's and 70s, my wife has a slight Nova Scotia accent from here parrents. French in Canada, or at least in my part is pronounced in the back of the throte, with blunt force. I recall picking up a hitch hiker from France a few years back and realized from the look on his face he was having a hard time understanding me. He was easy to understand I watch a fair bit of TV5, clearly I don't speak that well refined.
