Of cousre Peter is absolutely correct.

The poster seems not to have bothered to reply.  Lip from others simply reinforces the 'it's on the internet so I will use it and to h*ell with the supplier of that information'  'Who cares' attitude etc.

Some ought to learn the simple adage 'when in a hole, stop digging'.

Now the rest of the information, as well, is in danger of being withdrawn from everyone.

Thankyou for that.  A real asset to the forum and engine community in general.

No apology is a further insult in my opinion.

The rules on this forum need to be followed. In extreme cases some have departed.  Why should it be any different on another site?

End of rant.   No.   Bl**dy stupid actions of a minority, spoiling it for the rule-abiding majority.  Probably still at school or didn't learn anything about life when they were there.  It's less than 5% in most schools that have the attide to cause 90% of the disruption.  Some never do learn.

I think the forum, and the site concerned, deserve an open apology.  Although I doubt that would, in all probability, be sincere.

Not just unbiased.  My honest opinion.

Probably the opinion of quite a few on the forum, but who are not quite so frank with their views.

Perhaps some have the same perception of copyright as you.

Perhaps a few might stand up and be counted?

No , there was plenty of personal innuendo in your reply. You don't even know me so what endows you with the right to make personal remarks ?  I expressed an opinion and I stand by it.  The original poster contributed to the forum in all good intention , and I considered Listerdiesels response to be a little hostile. Did he have copyright and if so was it abused ?  The situation could have been resolved with a PM instead of public criticism.

My previous question directed to Peter was merely to ascertain if he *knew* the pics originated from his site (as opposed to freaking out over seeing someone else upload similar pics and just *assuming* they came from his site)

I agree totally with Peter, no one should be swiping pictures off his website without permission. Unfortunately, there are a lot of folk out there who have no respect for common courtesy......if the poster has any common decency they should be removed from photobucket IMO

And it never ceases to amaze me how a couple heated words send a thread spiraling down the tube

Rab i agree, information that can be downloaded should remain for personal use.  IMHO it should have been left for rottk9 to respond to Peter.

This is a thread I should probably keep my nose out of but..
Peter ( ListerDiesel ) is correct.
If you have been to his site, you would be amazed at the amount of info on it.
A lot that can not be found anywhere else all in one place and he was still ADDING to it.
That takes dedication of tremendous precious time , resources and for what.
I have downloaded from his site and I should have sent him a note thanking him for his generous
offering.
I sit here and thankyou Peter for your willingness to share your information for the better of all of us. And your sacrifice of time, energy, money and sweat to make your website available to us FREE of charge.
From what I remember Peter had to do numerous alterations from the original scans he did to clean them up from what they were previously, dark smudges.
That takes a lot of time, time that could be better spent elsewhere in probably more productive pursuits.

I do believe I read somewhere on Peters site that his images were for personal use and not
to be published without contacting him for permission first or something to that effect. Correct me if I am wrong.
As to the watermark question it would be easy to check the info properties of the image and check with the originals on Peters site if they are one and the same.

GuyFawkes went through something like this , only more odeous, when he uploaded full manuals of SOMs on his site ( some that had not been seen anywhere else at the time and I thank him also for this, Thanks John !! ) and they were copied and sold outright on fleabay much to his consternation.
His reaction was to yank them also.
Although this did not happen to Peter ( in this instance ) but at first it starts out small and then escalates, maybe not with the OP but with others later on.
Peter is fully in his right to yank it all, nip it in the bud.
We are all poorer for it and I hope he reconsiders his decision .
Perhaps the OP can persuade him in this.
Off my soapbox.

Peter, I'll offer free a program I wrote that will watermark whole directories of pictures in bulk. If you are interested please let me know. I too appreciate the work you've done and it is a tragedy to loose it.

I think Toms offer is a great one.  Would resolve ownership issues and allow proper credit.   that is an example of how the forum cna help each other as we find out new things here on the WEB

Internet manners means you ask permission of the host to reuse their pictures on the web unless they are posted as bulk and open source.  In this case it is in a grey area where the pictures were posted in  a personal space... but really there is no such thing on the internet as we have seen over the past few years

I think this has blown way out of scope... we need to suck back , finish a cuppa tea and move on.  Peter, take Tom up on his offer, it will resolve those issues for you and prove ownership.

rottk9 you should have asked Peter to use his pictures, and Peter you should have first contacted rottk9 by PM

Hopefully lessons and solutions have been learned.  I dont think there was any intent to injure in any of this

Cheers

Andrew

First off i thought this forum was for the exchange of ideas and chatter about lister engines, i guess i was wrong, seems like not a very friendly group here. I certainly did not think this would become such a hot topic, the pages of information i downloaded over 3 years ago .
I do have the original manuals with all the same information. As far as the lister company is concerned this is all these old engines are obselete and they no longer hold any information on them, the lister company is no longer for it has become lister petter.
If by chance those scans are from peter i do thank him they are nicely done and i did not mean to offend anyone, i just thought they went together well with the pictures. I was also not contacted to remove the pictures, email is listed or a message could have been left on the page.
My slow response is due to working a day job, time differences as i am in Canada, and not always having access to a computer to sit and gossip like a school girl about something this trivial.

I think that says it all.

Folks, I'm out of here, permanently.

Been fun and had some good chats with most of you, but as Compig says, "time to move on".

Bye.

Sorry to see you take such an extreme view of this issue and a pity you have decided to leave as you are depriving yourself of a wonderful forum.

Well someone is sure full of himself, you think your the only one in the world with lister information? Your not the Lister god.No one here has asked me to remove the information.
If your not willing to share it then why bother having a web page with it available. Go cry in your cerial , maybe change your diaper and have a nap, you might feel better.
My goal was to share some pictures and information about my lister project, and all it has done is made everyone a bunch of childern that wont share. Its too bad you are so petty about this situation.

I know I'm going to regret getting sticking my beak in this............

But I'd like to know for sure, rottk9 did you get the images off listerdiesel (Peter) site or somewhere else?
