Hello new to forum
« on: May 14, 2008, 03:34:37 PM »
I have had an interest in Listers for quite some time now and have acquired a Petter AB1 3000 rpm with generator , It came with the operators handbook , but no info on the generator .Near as I can tell its 50 hz 220v 3000w , I was wondering if anyone can id the generator? And if it was a package unit from Petter?
The brass plate shown below the rheostat is a warning about flash testing. The black frame and wheels were added later.

Thanks

Wally

Welcome to the group Wally!  That is a kinda cute package.  The engine bears remarkable resemblance to the air cooled gasoline B&S engines of North American origin used on lawnmowers, etc.  I can't help with gen head data but perhaps someone here can.  Does it not have any activity?
-DIY 1.5L NA VW diesel genset - 9 kW 3-phase. Co-gen, dualĀ  fuel
- 1966, Petter PJ-1, 5 kW air cooled diesel standby lighting plant
-DIY JD175A, minimum fuel research genset.
-Changfa 1115
-6 HP Launtop air cooled diesel
-Want Lister 6/1
-Large DIY VAWT nearing completion

I guess from the side it might pass for a letter series B&S engine.

I like the English electrical recepticals.
I'd be even more interested in the date of manufacture and wiring when the info starts to trickle in

I fired it up today , tested for voltage and got 12 vac with the rheostat half way .
The story goes that this unit came from the engine room of a boat and was an auxiliary power for the battery charger.
It came to North America 30 plus years ago and has been in heated storage.
I changed the fluids and it started first pull, when the proper starting sequence was followed.

Presumably the patch under the control box was where the rating/manufacturers plate was or is it still there?.  It might be hidden under the box mountings if it was an aftermarket union.  That little 4.5 HP engine will produce best part of 2.5kW but will overload on any more.
