Has anyone got any details of the lister cs multispeed accesory that was supplied as an extra for the cs. I think it enabled you to adjust the speed between 500 and 650 rpm. Has anyone got one, how do they work and can one be made eisily ?

Don't recall anything for the CS engines, or the 8/1 upwards.

The basic CS speed adjuster works fine, you can adjust the governed speed at will by moving the knurled nut along the adjuster thread.

If you needed to switch quickly, set up a couple of spacers so you can pack the adjuster nut out by a known amount to give the higher speed, or make up a small lever to pull the adjuster nut back to a stop.

Thanks but follow this link http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/ListerData/51P4data.htm and under the heading Horse Power and Speed you will see that a variable speed govener was available. Its this item that i am intrested in finding out about. I have an origional cs 6/1 and want to run it at 4 horse power at 500 rpm and also harness the heat for heating, i intend to build an exhaust heat exchanger and harness that heat as well. I believe it will produce more heat running at 500 revs at full power than it would at 650 at 2/3 power and also run cleaner, thanks for your reply,

I think that is just a variable throttle lever that works on the governor linkage, not a variable governor per se:

Bowden Control Lever 23-4216
End Fork  9-20-274
Support for lever   9-20-273
Anchor Pin    9-20-84
Locknut   27-7 (5/16" Whit)
Speed Indicator Plate 105-447
Support Bracket  8-6-108
Nut 27-6 (3/8" Whit)
Spring Washer 27-393
Bolt 3/8" Whit X 13/16" 27-739
Cable Stop  8-6-109
Grub Screw  270-50
CRANKCASE 8-24-69 (single-cylinder)
CRANKCASE 9-24-69 (twin cylinder)

That is out of the 1967 book that covers all the CS and later 8/1 & 16/2 models.

Love to, but these were not illustrated in any of the books that I have, something that many Lister and Petter users find very annoying!

It was just a simple quadrant lever with a cable that attched to the governor spring at some point so you could vary the tension by moving the lever.

The fact that a different crankcase was required suggests that there was a machined pad with tapped holes to take the bracketry involved.
