Sure, great rifles.  Probably one of the best rifles in the world is the Mauser '98.  Designed and made since 1898, but never really improved upon.  All bolt actions made since are more or less copies of the orig mauser action.

The Canadian Rangers - a unit of of the Canadian Forces made up of Inuit use the 303 Lee Enfield.  It is rugged, it can kill Polar bears (important thing in the North) and works in the really really cold winter nights.

The 303 is one of the best battle rifles of all time, and with thousands made surplus have put a lot of meat on the table.  A lot of people feel they are crap shooters... but that is because most are worn out.

I have a new from the Armouries with less than 1000 rnds down range Mk 4.  Very accurate out to 500 m with Iron sights or out at 1000m with optics... yes I have access to a Military range

I also like the wooden stock.. with a bayonet attached is a great pig sticker and club :D

I have a Swedish Mauser in 6.5 Swed, very nice weapon, actually it is stamped 1898 and is a work of art.  The quality of the build is impressive.

The old saying was if you want to hunt... get a Mauser
If your going to battle... get an Lee Enfield

Both have put a lot of food on tables... and one has helped win 2 world wars... the other lost  :P

Well i certainly learn an awful lot on this forum.I think the only chance of me having a rifle is if its deactivated.Doesn't that destroy the gun?

Maybe not.

In the Marine Corps, we were taught a little ditty, to call things by their proper names, like Ship & Boat are not the same.

this is my rifle, this is my gun, one is for shooting, one is for fun.  (appropriate finger pointing motions were performed)

Deactivate the rifle, your gun should still work

note:  while the 1903 springfield may have been on the winning side of 2 world wars, this rifle was an unabashed copy of the 1898 mauser.  Cant argue that the Lee Enfield is a great rifle, but just cant get used to the .303 cartridge.  Think because it's rimmed.  Just personal preference.  I'd cheerfully use it if it was me or the polar bear.  My '98 mauser was chambered for 30-06.  Loved it in Alaska, but too much gun for Oklahoma.  Hunted deer in Virginia in heavy cover with an M-1 carbine.  100% one shot kills.  Another wonderful old rifle.

One of my long standing pet peeves is hunters who use .300 mags, or even larger for deer.  What exactly are they trying to do to the poor deer, shooting it with an elephant gun(rifle).

My brother got me in the habbit of firing my SKS in two round bursts since its very easy.
Some people feel this is excessive when hunting deer.
I'm not as good a shot as I would like to admit and that second round in the same general area as the first is insurance at the cost of a bit of meat in my opinion.

I can't stand to see an animal suffer.
I don't hunt anymore so it doesn't realy matter.

The Enfield does not need a second chance like the SKS.....

My brother can put two bullets in a chest cav like I only wish I could, but even he has switched toa bow.

My cousin can out shoot me too and she's a girl lol....
( but she doesn't like the Enfield )

Gave my x a big anchor once and told her not to drop it. She stepped backwards and fell overboard. When she didn't come back up I jumped in and there she was, still holding the anchor.
