What a difference a silencer makes
« on: January 27, 2008, 01:15:32 PM »
I was running the origional inlet screen on my 6-1.  I found the air rushing in to be nearly the loudest noise on the engine.  I fitted an inlet air silencer/filter and things quieted dramatically.  These are available from McMaster Carr.  They come on air compressors to quiet and fillter the inlet air.

I ran the numbers.  A 6/1 uses about 15 CFM of inlet air.  A 1.5 inch size silencer is rated at 75 CFM.  There is no noticable air flow restriction or performance change.

Here.  Listen for yourself;

Here is the unit as of right now;

Different sound but difficult to tell from the vids. I just know that a filter makes my engine quieter. You have done a nice job there. Dont forget to add some sand to the crankcase to bring it up to modern spec. ;D
