Please help me identify my air cooled lister
« on: November 06, 2007, 01:49:11 AM »
Hello all,

I have a 4.25 hp air cooled lister.  It has all the original decals and the serial plate with the number 7744 SL 112.  Can someone identify the year and perhaps tell me something about this engine.  I am putting together a generator couple with an old onan 2kw generator and would like to have this engine running soon.  I would like to find an operator/parts manual as well.

Cheers, Adair

7744 SL 112

7744 is the serial number

SL is the engine series

1 is the number of cylinders

12 is the year of manufacture - 1962

Operating/Parts Manuals come up on ebay quite frequently.

Peter,

Thank you for the link and the information.  Compared to other Listers, my internet searches have yielded very little about the SL thus far.

Cheers, Adair

Here are some photos of my SL:

I have a neophyte question.  In the first photo, at the base of the engine is what looked to me to be a dipstick.  However, it does not pull out of the engine base.  Can anyone tell me what this is for?  I have yet to track down a manual and my curiosity is getting the better of me.

It does have a pump-like action.  The attached shaft is round in section, perhaps 3/16".  I should have clarified that it does slide out about three inches, then stops.  Didn't want to apply much force until I knew what it was.

It is the dipstick.

Probably it has a ring of crud around the bottom, give it a good jerk and it will come out.
