H2O combustion
« on: October 02, 2007, 11:10:59 PM »
I saw a thing on the news the other day where a guy was researching cancer treatments and he ran a frequency across sea water for some reason or another.  It ignited the hydrogen in the sea water.  He was able to repeat the experiment.  Now they are very hopeful this could be used in a internal combustion engine.  There goes the oceans....lol.

1200 watts of RF power frees $0.50 worth of hydrogen, and makes a funny yellow flame.    Something is off, as when hydrogen burns, it's an invisible flame, and UV detectors are used to sense the fire. ( we use hydrogen here at work, and have all sorts of sensors and safeguards to keep an eye on it )

"Sea water"

The flame will be yellow with all that salt around.

Dihydrogen monoxide - is that poisonous like carbon monoxide?

No but if you drink to much of it you will die and if you don't drink enough of it you will die.

I have been following many posts on overunity.com about generating hydrogen with electrolysers from experimentors and haven't seen anything worth the effort. Takes more energy to make hydrogen or Browns Gas than you get back from burning it. Storing it is dangerous and making it on demand hasn't panned out. Seems to be mostly hype. It would be great if one day it does become feasible.

Stan,

Especially when blended with C2H5OH

carlb23,

Just shows ... all things in moderation.....

Yup, works great, just don't get it confused with CH3OH   :P
