Hi,
I just weighed my piston rods with the caps and bearings attached.  One is 3748gm, and the other 3710gm.  I would like to balance them.  Is there any particular place to remove the metal?  Same question for pistons.  Thanks

Zeke--
I think I'd weigh them seperately and find out what part the difference is in.

You only have a little over an ounce to remove. That's about .30 of a cubic inch

The above is a link to a picture of the EPA label that came on my new Lovson 20-2.  I did purchase this engine in 2007, and so far no black helicopters have landed in my yard to carry me and it away.

zeke--- I  use webshots too.    Copy and past the full address listed under 'post in forum' in the window but don't use the photo insert icon.

The string will start and end with  "]"

Wow!  I wonder if  the EPA knows that engine is exempt?  <gnashing of teeth and smoke from the worry beads...>

That's a nice sticker but what does it mean?  it says it's excluded from the requirements but doesn't say why or under which provisions.

A sticker should say "this engine meets xxxx.xx standards"

or it should say "this engine is excluded due to xxxxxxxxx"

to say it's excluded without giving the subpart detailing why it gets its exclusion smells a bit like bs to me.

Is there more to the documentation that came with the engine that says why they believe it's excluded?

rmchanbers,
Nope, this sticker is the only mention of anything to do with EPA.  The folks at generator depot usa are cheerfully selling them like hotcakes.  Hope we all get away with it.  Thanks to all for getting the actual picture posted.  I learn slowly.

Nothing wrong with learning slowly, gives it a chance to sink in and stick that way.

I'd suggest maintaining as low a profile as you can just so you don't attract attention.  That EPA sticker may be 100% legit or it may not.  The better course would be to never have to prove it one way or the other.

Once I get moved to my Okie mountaintop it will be easy to maintain a low profile.  I'm so far out in the woods, the snakes get lost trying to find the place.  I literally had to buy a dozer to open up the roads so I can get building equipment and stuff in.  US mail, Fed Ex  and UPS all laughed when I told them where I'm  building.  Commercial power and phone are hopeless.  I could buy over 10 20kw Listeriod gen sets for less than the cost of running commercial power.  At least there is cell phone service.  Yes, we like peace and quiet, and "a country boy can survive".

Boy, do I learn slowly,
It's 3am and I just realized I did a newbie.  When I took the idler gear out I checked the section on how to mark the idler and cam gears so I could put em back in right.  I already had the heads and cylinders off, so I turned the crank till the journal was straight up (on the gear side), then marked the idler and cam gears as shown.   Now I'm thinking this might not be a good measure of TDC.  When I put it all back together, how can I check that I"m not a tooth (or 2) off on the crank?

BTW, The idler gear is indeed cast steel, and looks strong as heck.  Unfortunately the cam gear is cast iron(poorly cast).  Looks like it might support its own weight.  I'll bet my idler gear never breaks.  'Course the cam gear may fall in half at any time.
