Hi
I bought an anode from McMaster-Carr.
It is a rod fastened to a 3/4" plug. The rod is about 14" long, it cost $28 + shipping.

I use plain water in my cooling system. After a few days the water would be rust colored when I drained it. Just a couple of days. and it would come out rusty. this was a condition that went on for at least three months before I  installed the anode.

Since I put the anode in the system the water comes out much clearer. The anode is installed at the water line where all water passes by it when running. The water at the anode is around 200+ f. so I imagine the anode is active. The iron pipe is not connected electricly to the engine block. Rubber and water is the only connection.

I don't have much experience with this setup. I only used it a few days when the gen head went down. The water that was in the system set in the engine two weeks before I drained it. It came out clear. No other treatment was done to the water.
