FR2... going to try to start it. Advice?
« on: March 07, 2024, 06:37:25 PM »
FR2 that was used as a generator came with the property I bought.
The generator is disconnected and needs to be re-wound, but I believe the engine was ok. Hasn't been touched for 7-8 years. I don't have much experience with diesels...

-Hooked up a battery and gave it a bump, it moved
-Drained oil and old diesel
-Fuel filter seems clean
-Radiator is still full

Diesel tank is gravity fed... I assume I just loosen the bolt on top of filter until fuel comes out. Is it necessary to bleed where the lines go into the cylinder heads?

So after re-filling oil and diesel, handles up, lever to the right, and crank?

I suggest you replace the fuel filter now b efore you startputting new fuel through. Yes, you do need to bled the system at every point along the fuel lines. Once confirmed it starts run it slowly so to give it time to warm up then increase the revs a little bit but not flog it.
Then do all the rest of the fluids in the engine, oils and coolant and filters. These are tough engines and with a bit of care now will outlast the rebuilt genset again.
