Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Main plug removal
« on: December 07, 2014, 04:00:23 AM »
Because you are in a remote place, and may not have access to a torch or wedler: I offer this thought as a possibility. Now this crude but you will probably have these parts on hand.

Cut a bolt to such a length so that you can insert into the existing hole, into the combustion chamber and then pull it back turning it sideways.

Now you probably have some chain laying around. Get a piece of small chain, say 6 to 10 inches. Make sure the bolt will fit through the end link. This with give you a T bolt with a piece of chain hanging out of the head.

From here you might be able to attach a puller to the chain, if you have one. Or you might be able to wrap it around a pry bar and lever it out. Or you might wrap it around some sort of iron bar and pound wood wedges under each side of the bar until the plug brakes free.

Now I know these are crude suggestions, but it sounds like you need some out the box suggestions to this problem

Having reviewed his ad while it was up: Wow, what an opportunity to join a world class (ass) diesel engine manufacturing company! And for the extremely high wage of $10 / hour, part time, no benefits, and the opportunity to work side by side with the hundreds of engineers and machinists based in their world headquarters. Now, this is a real world listeroid career opportunity.

Looks like the mother ship is back in earth orbit.

Enjoyed watching all four of his videos. At first, wondering why he didn't paint his hard work, then thought about the heat and the absence of water / humidity, I guess it's not worth the effort.

Generators / Re: Distance between generator and point of use
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:08:43 PM »
My run is 300 feet from the generator shed to the transfer switch, then into the house and the distribution panel. I was concerned about voltage drop at maximum power usage (50A - 240VAC). I used AWG #1 gage for the conductors and less for the neutral and ground (IIRC AWG #4). I do not regret spending the extra money.

Part of the #1 AWG justification was the permitting process for the tool shed with 100 amp service. I ran a line 50 feet from the genereator shed to hit the 250 foot line running from the tool shed to the house service panel. Thus, 250 + 50 = 300 feet run.

My suggestion is spend as much as you can on wire, over build if you can, do it right, and you'll never have to worry about voltage drops, poor performance, insulation fire, etc.

You should consider putting a link to your listeroid hurricane web site posting. Excellent photos on your machine during it's time of need years ago.

I am fortunate to be running an XYZer off set bolt in each on two listeroids but nearly as good results can be achieved (reportedily) by drilling the hole slightly larger and by using half a brass bushing shim. Obviously not as good but functional. I beieve there is discussion on this alternate mehod / topic somewhere on the board.

Here is a good video on how and why it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbjDH7fr_J8

Same here, I had lunch with him two years ago, outsatnding guy, great service, active in his church, and at the time he was offering part time employment to at risk youth in his wearhouse. What more can you say about this wonderful guy who sells the stuff we like a reasonable price.

Would you be interested in stocking bearing shells with CT1 coatings?

Is this the same coating process? http://www.dowcorning.com/content/publishedlit/80-3384.pdf

General Discussion / Re: Mars One Way (Lister content!)
« on: March 08, 2014, 07:41:19 AM »
What a bunch of nut jobs! The hair dresser, the museum clerk, etc, just look at he engineering back ground these candidates possess, yes they are going to do a great job navigating the space craft, fixing all the equipment on way and while on the surface of mars, building structures, yes they all have really good skill bases for a space mission. About the only worthy one there is the bee keeper dude and his listeroid (about 7 minutes into the video), perhaps he could be trained for a useful purpose. I see these nut jobs every day in Boca Raton, Wellington, and Jupiter Florida (affluent - wealthy areas). I wonder who helped you tie your shoe laces this morning as they order their Starbucks soy coffee latte natural brown natural sugar only and on and on with the criteria. Morons - but now that I think about, it might not be a bad idea to convince millions of them to take a one way trip to Mars, this way they can't contaminate the gene pool further on earth by reproducing.

Listeroid Engines / Re: Tappet guides

I have two listeroids (twin & single) both engines have these holes. My two nearby listeroid owning friends each engine has them too. What I found is you can twist the base around so the holes face forwards, sideways, or backwards with respect to the rotation of the crankshaft. I've found or at least I preceive this allows you to introduce a little more oil splash into the angle drilled hole which provides more or less life sustaining oil to the rotating taplet. Personnally, I really like this feature, easy to adjust with a pipe wrench to twist the taplet guide around 90 or 180 degrees to evaluate the difference.

Also, each of us polished all the burrs off of the taplet shaft, cleaned up the spiral groove which was a mess. The results has been spinning taplets that function perfectly and get good lubrication. You got love these brutally simple machines.

We both have the same engine purchased around the same time from the same dealer, could even have been built during the same production run. I"ll watch with great interest as you explore the cause.
