Generators / Re: Variable speed Generators. good idea?

beamer you have the outstanding prime mover. different rpms will be hard to maintain. this is a zero clearance engine i would replace the w/p and timing belt that drives it. the antifreeze from the weep hole took out the timing belt. the pistons met the valves and both were not happy. this was common and usually not economical to fix. this would also be a good veggie burner if the rpms are kept up. the i mark was a very good ride for its time

flicker may be on and off many times per second.when you do without for many days posibly weeks the flicker becomes better than none at alll. the st is crude the purchase of said head is to get the basics up and running. why people need all the computers and alll the other fancy electronic gagets going during a hurricane gets me. in daytona bch your grabbin your ass to see watts left after you rise from the dark. if you see flicker you see more than the rest. total darkness is not uncomen and days of such aint either. not the sqeecky wheel gets the grease here just puttin in my .02  fla dont have mayor ray running the pumps but we have been in a pinch more than once. a flickerin gen set is a good thing in  total darkness

sanchez the drop in hz is drop of the rpms . the prime mover is overloaded or cant maintain a changing or steady load

sorry if i read you wrong bruce. i still say that the st has proven true, dirt cheap, and ez to fix.   in fla the power goes out whenever. during hurricane outage we be lookin for the basics.  the city gives out ice after 9 days and the outage could go for 15. i have had gas "scream, ers" the power is good and clean but the gal/hr will eat a new assh--e also in daytona the pumps are down when the winds blow. the listeriod/st head combo cant be beat if you ask me. flickerin lights are better than no lights. one will adapt when needed to . jut my 2 pennys

cracker check the nip. do not assemble with grease or any other thick lube. these will retain what you want to wash out.

if you have a lister or a riod varying 5 hz it is either over loaded or the governor is lazy. bruce you have a problem if thats what your 6/1 is doing. this is a problem that you will correct or you will pay. motors are not as forgiving as you state. frequency (HZ) is rpm only the smoke gennie will prove this. a good governor wont cheat the public and should maintain +/- 1 hz from unloaded to fully untill overload then all bets are off. the voltage is controlled by regulation of volts to the field windings. the st head is as crude as they get. the power that has been produced from them for 50 or so years has not changed. the design was not meant to power any electronics as they did not exsist. two sides here power to survive and fix ez or trying to run a computer or watt ever during a hurricane and hope your lying sales person will help you out when needed most

if you want to get rid of your brush type head cause it makes your lights flikerr please advise. watt size is the head? two pole 3600  or possibly 4 pole 1800.  if voltage and freq are fair i dont care about flicker. you want to sell hook me up

if this is a ding from no vac hose on the rod bolts during assembly. smooth out the crank and carry on. the high spots will destory the bearings the lows will retain oil and any other metal that may be floating around

we have bleeding for singles and twins in the post and lovley pics but the only wrenchin going on is a single. being an owner of more than one twin i have found that the " U"  in the line between the ips can cause a slight problem. gravity at or near sea level will not bleed the air from the U. it has been my experience to slightly pressurize the fuel system to get rid of the "air pocket". not bitchin or complaining just statin the facts. as a newbe some time ago my first twin i ran 5 or so min waiting for #2 to fire. after cracking the feed to ip  #2 and pressurizing the tank slightly it got juice to the ip. the beast came to life. yes i did run it out of fuel so my fault but trying to give heads up to those who are new to twins shipped dry.

in the early 80's when ford first started with the international it was a idi with glow plugs. now it is DI witha turbo and the wait to start is a in line air heater. this is now the aid to cold starts as there are not glow plugs in them anymore. guy i agreee with your post and the density thing but the newer fords are full of hot air dont know about the others
