Generators / st voltage regulator popped
« on: March 10, 2007, 05:10:34 PM »
I blew my voltage regulater on my 12kw tawasi gen. head. I overloaded it when I overrevved the engine. The small round capicator or whatever it is popped and smoked out. I need to get a new vr to replace it. Can someone tell me where to locate one? Please. something as simple as possible since my electrical wiring skills are limited.

I am running the radiator pressurized. My rad. had 11/2 ports on it also. I had one actual radiator on hand and on the other side I used red G.P. air and water hose rated at 250 psi. I ran the overflow hose from top of rad. to a homemade one galllon tank for overflow and evaporation.

I got the radiator setup today and ran the changfa for 4 hours under a steady load. It ran great and carried all my 110v and 220v loads which consisted of a washer and dryer, ref., some flo. lights , computer, tv and sat. reciever. Also ran a load of dishes in washer and 220v hot water tank. I put a fan blowing on radiator temp. until I can rig a permanent one. The temp gauge read in a range between 165 deg f and 210 deg. f depending on the load. The radiator kept up fine and never got too hot to touch. I put in a 3 section jeep cj7 heavy duty rad. I will keep the board posted, Oh by the way Georges manifold plate worked great!

I recieved my manifold plate from George  and I need to know what to use for a gasget between it and the Changfa. I am hooking up a radiator in place of the coolant hopper.

Would a truck radiator say out of a 67, 68 ford pickup have enough capacity w/ fan or would I still need the 40 gal. tank and the radiator?

I got the changfa 1115 installed at my home. It is belted to a 12kw st head. I tried it out over the weekend. It ran fine and carried the load . It ran (not all at the same time), My lights, tv, computers, ref., and washer and dryer, ceiling fans etc. It really ran hot with the washer and dryer on at the same time. So I am installing a manifold plate from utterpower w/ a 40 gal thermo-siphon tank. I hope that will give me enough cooling capacity for the heave 220v loads. Will keep you posted. PS went to Columbus, Ohio on saturday to Mohammeds house to exchange a dead 12kw st head and he exchanged with no problem. While there I couldnt resist temptation and bought one of the 4.9 hp water cooled changfas he had on ebay. Well that will be a future project! :)

Great! I already have 40 gallons of antifreeze so I will go with the tank and manifold setup. I want to get a manifold from utterpower if george i still selling them, if not what thickness plate steel do I need for the plate?

I have a 40 gallon water tank i could hook up to it with a manifold plate like you suggest. will that setup work as a siphon feed?

My Changfa zs1115g is a hopper feed coolant tank setup with a water pump. I want to go to a sifon feed large coolant tank. Can someone tell me how to hook it up. Can I use the existing hopper and ports or will I need to remove the hopper and install a manifold like Georges utterpower cangfa? ???

Generators / Re: Dead st generator

I applied 12v dc to the two brush wires, left and right. The wires sparked and got hot when I held them on the brush wires. I hooked the positive wire to the inside brush wire and the negative wire to the outside brush wire. Positive being the one closer to the front of the generator and negative being the one closer to the rear of the generator. I did so both while the gen. was running and before startup. No voltage present at the main leads. I pulled two of the brushes back away from the commutater and checked resistance there and got about 17.5ohms. So are my windings good? Someone told me to check the two heavy wires coming from the gen. to the regulator for ac voltage and if I got about 50vac or so It was a bad regulator. :-\

Generators / Dead st generator

I started my 12.5 kw st gen. head for the first time today and it seems dead. The red light does not burn and the panel meter is on zero. I removed the dogbox cover and checked the lugs and got 1.5 volts one way and 3.2 volts the other. I removed the back mesh cover and checked the brushes and they are all rubbing as normal. It is wired for 220v operation. I bougnt it from Muhammed at Motors, Generators and stuff and it is a Kawazi brand gen. Any ideas? ???
