My friend Valdemar has the big nose for finding Bamfords but us blind hogs find an acorn now and then also, LOL

Generators / Changfa and ST head to the rescue once more
« on: June 15, 2022, 12:46:28 PM »
15 years ago I built up a stand by generator set with a 1115 Changfa and a 15KW ST head fron Georgia Generator.  Probably has 300 hours on it now as our power rarely goes out but when it does it is out for a while. Last time was 5 days. Monday a Derecho blew through here and power has been out since and the set has been powering the old farm house same as normal. AC on, cooking, lights, laundry, everything.  Fueled the set last night and just fueled again exactly 12 hours apart. 3 1/2 gallons. 1.16 quarts per hour. Im sure not going to complain about that when the neighbor is running a 10KW gas screamer at almost a gallon per hour. Do the math on that, $5 gas x 1 per hour x 24 hours per day. dang expensive comfort if you ask me.
Only repairs I have had is the ST bridge rectifier went bad in first hour of operation. Replaced it with a 5010 bridge diode and heat sinked it to the box.
As an aside we sure are seeing who has no buisiness living out in the country. The crying on social media is unbearable.

Listeroid Engines / Top quality Listeroid exporter
« on: March 31, 2022, 10:24:00 PM »
Yessiree I have finaly located that Listeroid "manufacturer" with good engines. Customer left one here to be checked over. Literature says ISO 9001 manufacturer of top quality agricultural equipment, quanteed no sand and correctly assembled.  ;D  ;D ;D
Check out the garbage in this twin block! last pic is a pile of sand and slag I removed in about 20 minutes with a needle scaler, about 100 times what it would take to ruin the engine. Plus the oil pump intake was completely covered by a slipped core and casting flash.  This engine would have been toast in 30 minutes or less. People often ask, is it realy necessary to take them all the way down?? You all be the judge.

Listeroid Engines / 18/1 build up
« on: December 29, 2021, 10:13:12 PM »
This 18/1 has been sitting around the shop for almost 10 years and I decided its time to build it up. Actually was planning to do a quick build but that all went out the window with the first close look, they shipped half of India with it. Never seen one even close to this filthy. Picture shows what I knocked loose in about 5 minutes with a screwdriver. I reckon people get tired of hearing it but this is why you cannot put an India engine into service without a complete teardown,,, if you expect to get any hours out of it. A peek inside tbe crankcase door tells you virtually nothing. I  expect that by the time I get done poking around I'll have a cereal bowl full of sand and slag

Other Slow Speed Diesels / More nice things
« on: November 23, 2021, 04:51:59 PM »
Nice thing about my little engine operation is the eye candy I get to both look at and work on. This VERY early 3/1 1932 or 33 was dropped off for me to tune up and fix a few things. I will get to it when I quit slobbering on it every time it get close.

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Another Bamford
« on: November 21, 2021, 06:25:27 PM »
More shop work has arrived. 4.5HP Z2 Bamford factory radiator. It is in much worse shape than the photo appears. Hopefully there is enough good left that we can rebuild it.

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Few old Bamfords
« on: September 26, 2021, 12:59:35 PM »
Took a little road trip and picked up these Z series Bamfords diesels. A 10 HP, a 4.5 HP and a 4 HP parts engine. All are sold as soon as I have time to rebuild them. Factory parts are exhausted for these so we have to be quite resourceful to put them back as new with shop made and reproduction parts.

Changfa Engines / 165F engines back on Ebay
« on: September 17, 2021, 02:26:21 PM »
Back on Ebay are the slant cylinder 165F air-cooled diesels. I always liked the looks of that design. Hint, if you have interest don't pay the asking price. I saved the ad in my watch list and soon I had a reduced price buy it now offer.

Changfa Engines / So,, how long have these been available???
« on: July 14, 2021, 11:50:44 AM »
One of these showed up for sale locally. 196CC 3HP diesel. I thought the EPA banned the small diesels? Anyway I  searched them a bit and found they are on eBay and Amazon and if you shop a bit, just over $200. For that kind of money I ordered one just to play with.

Soon to be completed 6/1 Lister for sale. Should be done late year. Total disassembly, corrected in every way possible way and assembled per Lister technical data sheet per new engine specifications, NOT wear tolerances.  New hard valve seats, new Lister valves,  reground crank, best quality bronze back rod bearing. Both ends of rod reconditioned, new iron piston, good Listard chrome bore etc, etc. Too much new to go on listing. Price finalized when completed, estimated price cheerfully offered via PM.
With  7 CS types and roids through the shop just his year, we know these engines and do them right,, or not at all

Listeroid Engines / iron vs Aluminum piston weight
« on: October 30, 2020, 12:19:07 AM »
The discussion below about piston weight made me curious enough to weigh some. A std bore cast iron R.A. Lister piston with pin and ring package weighed 9 lbs, 9.2 oz , an India aluminum piston with same components came in at 4 lbs 7.6 oz and an India iron piston weighed 9 lbs, 5.8 oz. You KG types will have to do your own conversion but by any system the iron piston weighs in over double it's aluminum counter part. Somebody a lot smarter than me could do the math for the inertia loads but your engine is starting and stopping that piston 20 times per second @600 RPM. The extra inertia involved at 850 RPM concerned R.A. Lister enough to lighten the pistons for the 8/1 and at the same time upgrade the big end bearing materials. In its favor the CS has a very long rod vs the stroke and the resulting rod ratio reduces the forces at each end of the stroke.
I certainly cannot argue with the success reported previously with higher speeds and iron pistons but I also have to think that Lister didn't change the piston material on a whim? Thus when iron piston engines leave my little enterprise the owners are cautioned to keep them under 650 RPM.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Early 10/2
« on: October 15, 2020, 11:47:01 AM »
Purchased this 10/2 for my personal collection. It is an early one that has several unusual features. Wet type injectors with feeler pins. The first style replaceable element fuel filter etc.  No frost damage and no broken or mangled parts. I do need to rid it of the India exhaust!
It goes in line behind several others but I am anxious to get it going.
