LOL - I hope there isn't too much casting sand in the poor thing - Atul Patel assured me it would be clean.  (But I'd still recommend a tear down or camera inspection at least) As I recall the crankcase had some gooey shipping oil much like that which came inside the Honda clone motors I was importing at the time.

For what it's worth the engine has been stored inside a dry (bulk paper handling) climate controlled wearhouse.  Wish I had the time and room to keep it.  Glad to see the forum is still going strong, was reading many of the old messages.  My favourite comment I found was "Im starting to miss Guy Fawkes" LOL.

Will attempt to find a photo of the engine.  Never started Powerline engine, purchased directly from Anand Enterprise in Early 2006.  Still on the original skid, but crate removed.

2 DC Alternators wont fight each other.  Whichever one has the voltage set highest will work the hardest.  On our buses, there are two different types of factory configuarions:

A)  2 Identical alternators (Aircooled, 140A each) with internal regulators run in parallel, each hooked up like the other one wasn't even there.  Voltage regulators are set the same, so that load is spread out roughly the same.  Unless the diode bridge self destructs in the worst possible way, even if one fails, you still have some power.

B) 1 (280A Oil cooled Delco Alternator) set at 28.8V to provide the main charging source.  1 (Aircooled 140A) alternator set at 27.6V, only picks up load if the main alternator is overloaded or fails. 

Either one of these systems could work on your boat.  Use proper marine alternators, fuses on each alternator, and solder and crimp the crimp connections for durability.  Theres rarely such a thing as "wire to big".  If you need more specifics, let me know.

Glad no one was hurt.

However, it should serve as a good reminder, regardless of personal or business use, properly locking out and tagging out equipment is always a good idea.  Not that someone in a one man shop will come and turn on something you are working on, but the fact that you have to get your key out, unlock the breaker and turn it on, reminds you to double check everything.

Hi,
      Was the voltage measured at an outlet?   Or measured at the outlet legs on the generator?   Maybe there is a lot of loss between the generator and actual loads causing low voltage?   Also, some fridges that I have seen use a solid state device to supply power to the compressor, models with a relay are much more reliable.

12 Wire heads are rated for 2/3s of rated power when in single phase mode.
The current and voltage remain the same at each winding, but because of the double-delta connection, or the zig-zag connection, you only get 2/3rds of the power.  (Of course the gen only takes 2/3s of the power to drive)  I never explored the idea of using that "wasted" capability for a heater load or other isolated system..... I just thought of that and will have to consider it in the morning when my brain is on.

IE  If it was rated for 120/208, 3PH, 100A (36kW)  The single phase rating would be 120/240 @ 100A (24kw)   

24/36=   2/3!!!

The supplier that I have been dealing with, the STCs were just a reworked ST head, and the geniune Stamford clones had a different designation like WTW etc.

My buddy doesn't pay for room and board.

He's put up by his employer, in what would remind most people of a college dorm, but without all of the sex and pranks.

It's alot easier than trying to look for a place, plus it saves all of the hassles of sharing a house with people who dont live/eat/sleep in the same manner than you do.

That's the arrangement my buddy has, seems to like it.  They look after the flights, room and board, etc.  He just goes out, does the work, comes home.   Might be a lot harder with kids though.

Works at one of the oil refinery sites out there.

Where else other than up in your area would he find any 25Hz stuff Doug??  The rest of Ontario gave that crap up well before I was born, except the mining industry.  Any 25Hz machines I have seen are true antiques......  I dont know that any of them were close to running condition.

Do you have a pic or model # off this regulator???

Usually the regulators take 2 phases, or 1 phase & neutral. 

The different pins are for different sensing voltages if equipped.
