It would help if we knew what engine you have. I am guessing at an ST or SR 3. I have attached a photo of the spring on my ST2, not sure if it will help much as you appear to have a slightly different set up.

Thanks for this - it’s an ST3 if it’s been identified correctly. I opened up my SR2 but it has a totally different setup so that didn’t help at all.

OK I get it now. I saved your pic as a  JPEG. Your engine came out of a boat so I am assuming it is set for variable speed. That spring setup is to adjust your low idle but it is usually placed next to the last pump towards the flywheel but I suppose it would work where it is. If I can figure out how to send a picture of the adjustment instructions I will do so. Basically once all setup procedures are done you "according to the manual" you completely slack off the speeder spring start the engine and use the spring setup you are looking at to adjust the low idle.

Ah, that makes sense, it is set for variable speed and a low idle adjustment would make sense. If you can send a picture of the adjustment instructions that would be great!

Engines / Unidentifed engine recommission
« on: April 04, 2019, 11:32:40 PM »
Hello,
I'm in the process of recommissioning a 3-cylinder air cooled Lister that came out of a boat (and will be going back into a different boat)

I'm struggling with a spring in the assembly among the fuel pumps - it's to the right of this photo. It doesn't seem to be actually doing anything. Can anyone tell me what it is for and how it should be installed. Is there something missing here?

Thanks,
Sean

Original Lister Cs Engines / Re: Engine Identification

Thanks for the info Listard-jp2 and Thob. I've now registered with that site, so once approved I should be able to find some information.

This is it Thob... a 20ft Fifie yawl, built in St Monans on the east coast of Scotland sometime in the early twentieth century. According to something in the Scottish Fisheries Museum it was the first St Monans built boat designed for both sail and engine power. Quite a project!

It was on the West Coast of Scotland until a friend and I bought it, and we've moved it back to Anstruther, a couple of villages along from St Monans, so it's a bit like the boat has come home.

There's a lot of work to be done - to make the boat seaworthy and to make the engine look good. The engine does at least work (someone I know saw it running not long ago), though I've no idea how to start it. I watched a couple of videos of people starting SR2s on youtube, but I'm not much the wiser. Can anyone be bothered to talk a complete newbie through the procedure needed to start the engine?

Original Lister Cs Engines / Engine Identification

Hello all,
I'm new to the world of Lister engines, having just bought a neglected boat containing a neglected engine. I'm trying to identify the model of this engine, and the plate on the side of the engine has been painted over so I can't (yet) tell what the serial number is. I was told that the engine was used in a quarry before finding it's way onto the boat.

There's a higher resolution version at http://seandooley.com/engine.jpg

Is there an operations manual somewhere that I can download?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Sean
