I haven't removed the sump but from what you are saying that is the only way to access the rod caps as there is really no way to get past the oil pump tubes, is that what you're saying?

I dont know for certain but to remove the oil pump on a ST2 it looks as if the sump has to be dropped and pulled from below. Why do you need to be there? Is there an oil pressure problem or other?
Yes, the engine was seized when I got it because it was stored outside in the elements and I have to pull the pistons and rods. I was able to free things but there is no compression and I'm rather cetain the rings may be "welded" in the piston grooves so everything has to come out. Fortunately I was able to remove one rod cap but I can't access the two outside rods because the oil pump tubing is in the way. I've tried every possible contortion and just can't get in there with the oil pump installed. Given that, I can't imagine the fun I would have attempting to replace everything (cap and bearing) and re-torquing the bolts. I would appreciate any solutions....I tried sacrificing a chicken but still no luck, lol.

Engines / Removing oil pump and connections from`an ST3

Can anyone give me advice on the removal of the oil pump and connections on an ST3? I have an owner's manual and it shows the parts but not the proper way to disassemble them from the engine. I have to check the rod caps for wear and this would make access much easier than trying to work around them. Any advice on the proceedure would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Wayne
