Lister Based Generators / Re: Rocketboy and Cujet Hurricane Irma commentary
« on: September 12, 2017, 01:15:02 PM »
Boy this thread really went off the tracks.
Yeah, I was kind of hoping we'd get some commentary from folks living through the event.  Fortunately another thread had some more info, unfortunately that is where I also learned Rocketboy was no longer with us.  I found his website prior to finding this forum.

"they" really don't want us to work.

day job is senior network engineer, we have a lab where we evaluate new equipment.  There is both 110 and 220 PDUs located in equipment racks, been that way for 25 years.  A couple weeks ago someone, who was escorted by a regular into the lab, plugged 110 power strip into 220 PDU, tripped lab breaker.  First time this has ever occurred, 'cause regulars know the difference.

We had to have a meet with safety regarding the incident.  Safety engineer first suggested we move all the PDUs to their own racks, and run power in NEW overhead cable trays.  They grudgingly accepted labelling voltage on the different PDUs.  I gave up trying to explain everyone working in the lab should recognize different receptacles and we should hold the person who escorted the idiot responsible   The escorting individual ended up getting rewarded for writing a good lessons learned document.  We don't hold anyone responsible for bad decisions any more.

on the other side is the occasional low freight cost.

I purchased a Harbor Freight mini-mill Jan 1, weighs ~ 130lbs in crate.  FedEx Home Delivery charge was ~ US$25, from SoCal to New Mexico, it got here in 3 days.

Everything else / Re: Brittle Bolts, Coarse or Fine ? Grade 5 or 8 ?
« on: January 19, 2016, 06:35:10 PM »
another data point.  your "grade 5" hardware may not really be grade 5.

I work at a facility where we regularly test fasteners, this because of the high number of counterfeit fasteners.  Rigorous testing is done because our manufactured product go into areas where systems can't be repaired or replaced.

Thar aint no Fiat round these parts.
There might be.  White, Hesston, Allis-Chalmers, Oliver and Minneapolis-Moline all sold tractors under their name that were made by FIAT.

I have a Long 550, which is basically a FIAT tractor.  I was referred to CMN to download FIAT manual, but you have to be a member..  I'm trying to get some info on the hydraulic system.

Anyone a member of Classic Machinery Network forum?

If so I need some help getting my account activated.

I registered last weekend, but when I log in I get account not activated.  I've checked my SPAM folder but haven't received anything from CMN.  Their FAQ says contact an administrator but I can't find an email address for a forum admin.

I'm trying to download some manuals for an old tractor I own.

thanks

Antique Witte diesel oil field generator stationary backup power

Witte diesel/electric plant. Massive single cylinder slow speed 9HP engine with a 5-6kw twin belt driven generator on heavy cast iron base. Generator was designed to run for months with little maintenance. Was last used in a remote mining camp for 20-30 years. Turns over freely, unknown what it would require to get running.
$600.00 OBO
Thanks for looking.

Hmmm, that is an interesting use for Indian Pale Ale.  :D

Sorry, that is the first thing I thought when I saw IPA.
