Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Lister Engines For Sale
« on: August 29, 2016, 11:22:58 AM »
I have been storing these engines for 12 years now, the buyer hasn't collected them as promised and I'm not paying storage any longer, so they are going up for sale.

Lister 16/2 on generator base
Lister CE Twin
Lister FR1
Lister FR2
Lister SOM set

All are in steel stillages so can be shipped as a pallet.

All are in the UK.

You must arrange collection and payment.

I'll get some pictures up later this week.

I've had a heart valve operation, followed by breast cancer, so the last 12 months haven't been a lot of fun, but we are starting to get out again with the Ruston engine, we were at Lincoln Steam Rally last weekend.

Lister Based Generators / Lister JK4 37.5kVA Generator
« on: November 18, 2014, 05:40:16 PM »
I have been offered a JK4 lighting set by a member on another forum.

As I already have one, I'm obviously not in the market, but it's available for £1250 ex-site.

 Here is the message:

"Morning Peter, I forgot to mention it before but we are trying to tidy the place a bit and need to clear a few things. I have a Lister JK4 lighting set 37.5kva if I remember right. it was working as a standby generator at the docks. For the past year or two its been outside under a sheet. I have too many projects and have come to realise that this one is not going to get done. If you can think of anybody for it I would like £1250. When put away it would turn with a bar but have not checked it since. If I was to do it I would strip it and fit rings and grind the valves. cheers john."

If anyone is seriously interested, PM me for the seller's details.

I have no financial involvement, buyer deals direct with the seller.

Ruston & Hornsby 1HR, smallest horizontal diesel they made and relatively rare with only 200 or so built from what I have been told.

5.5bhp, nearly half the weight of the 1ZHR and quite dinky  ;D ;D

Bought another Lister S-O-M alternator to go with it, that will be rigged up the same as for the big engine.

Original Lister Cs Engines / CAV Injection Pump Date Codes
« on: September 07, 2013, 09:08:37 AM »
We have a listing on our websites for the dating of CAV injection and other equipment:

http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/CAV-Injection/CAVDate.htm

To expand the accuracy of the listing, we need more dates from engines so that we can verify the accuracy of what is in the tables.

Could we ask all Lister engine owners to check their engine pump date code and email me with the engine type, serial number and date code please?

The code is two-characters, both letters, and is usually at the bottom of the label, but it does vary. In all cases the two characters are separate from the main type numbers.

Many thanks,

Peter

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Caterpillar 1Y73 Fuel Reasearch Engine
« on: July 27, 2013, 04:52:14 PM »
The 1Y73 that we took to Nuenen in the first year we went has been on long-term loan to the Anson Museum, but they are now revising their layout and want to return it to us.

This is how it looked:

The dynamometer is a Heenan & Froude DX3 by memory and is not hooked up to the engine. It was overhauled by the Uni it came from before we bought it.

The engine is not running as yet, but was fully overhauled before being put into storage from whence it came to us.

It is at present at the Anson Museum near Manchester.

We are looking to sell at £1750 for the whole set-up as in the picture, engine, trolley and Dyno.

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Ruston College Engine & Dynamometer
« on: February 15, 2013, 10:49:35 AM »
We have just picked up another college engine/dyno set from ebay:

It is a Ruston & Hornsby 1YB vertical water-cooled diesel, 6bhp, with a Mawdsley Dynamometer attached, all on a bedframe.

It has the original control switchboard and meters, and is 220V DC.

There are a few attachments for the purposes of the instructional function of the set, a drive pulley and contacts for a Farnboro Indicator, and also a device on the injector which is unspecified at present, but we think a transducer for the injection side of things.

It is a runner, so a bit of cleaning up, get a decent exhaust and it should be out in the summer with its big brother.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister Cinderford Assembly Line
« on: January 05, 2013, 09:31:25 AM »
I posted this many years back, but there are now plenty of new users who probably haven't seen it:

This is probably the late 1960's, early 1970's, CS twins being assembled on the line, probably 16/2 engines going by the later cylinder blocks and the flywheels with the lozenge cut outs in the far background, plus the alloy pistons on the bench.

This line is doing twins, the factory also assembled other Lister products such as pumps etc.

General Discussion / 25th Nuenen Engine Show - May 2013
« on: September 22, 2012, 08:33:16 AM »
A heads-up for those looking for a nice weekend surrounded by engines, the 25th Nuenen engine show will take place next May 18th, 19th and 20th May 2013, making it a 3-day show for the first time.

This is the year when slide-valve engines will be featured, and some rare engines are likely to be on show.

If you haven't been before, it's a great show, engines only, 3 days of engine smells and some beautiful machinery.

We are booked on the ferry already and will be getting there a day early as attendance is expected to be high.

Location is:

Schoutse Vennen 15
5674 TK
Nuenen
Near Eindhoven
Netherlands

If you have any questions about the event, drop me an email or ask on here, this will be our fifth year at the show.

Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / Lister (??) on ebay
« on: December 15, 2011, 10:53:26 AM »
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-LISTER-CS-TYPE-PORTABLE-STATIONARY-ENGINE-NOT-LIVE-STEAM-DIESEL-GENERATOR-/280791409889?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item416078e4e1

I have my doubts and have asked the question as to the maker.

Looks like an Indian clone, badged up as a Lister, so possible copyright infringement as well.

Happy to be proven wrong....

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister Diesel Starting Handles.
« on: December 04, 2011, 04:35:03 PM »
Just posted this for a guy on Smokstak, but the pictures may be of interest here as well:

The smallest is a Lister CS diesel handle, bore is for a 2" crankshaft.

Next is a Lister CE double-grip starting handle, bore is for a 2-1/4" crankshaft.

Largest is the JP or 9/1 handle, bore is for a 2-3/4" crankshaft.

The Ruston 1ZHR is 2-5/8" crankshaft.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Crating An Engine For Shipping
« on: December 04, 2011, 03:30:35 PM »
For the occasional time when you need to do it, the following pictures might help.

The engine is a Stuart H2Y, and is remarkably heavy for such a low power engine!

The pictures are self-explanatory, the plywood is 10mm, the timber is 60 X 40mm approximately, there are about 100 or more screws in there, the pallet is a standard Euro pallet. The bolts are M8 with large heavy washers.

The engine is going by road transport to Denmark and we wanted to make sure it stood a good chance of getting there in one piece.

We brushed most of the sawdust off before we put the top on!

Other Slow Speed Diesels / Progress on the Ruston & Hornsby 1ZHR
« on: September 25, 2009, 10:29:31 PM »
Various happenings while the forum has been down, and also I haven't had a lot of spare time to chat or show what's been going on, but here are the pictures of the Ruston & Hornsby 1ZHR diesel and the new trolley and chassis. There is a Start-O-Matic alternator that is going onto the end of the chassis, that was reconditioned earlier in the year. The pulleys and layshaft are for the speed step-up to get 1500rpm out of the Ruston's 375 rpm.

First picture is the trolley (Ex Trident aircraft aircon rig) with the chassis frame mounted loosely on top.

Then we have the bolted down frame.

The engine is put on bit by bit (It all has to come off again....)

Holes drilled for the 3/4" or 20mm through-bolts to hold the engine down (3 bolts only)

Couple of closer shots of the engine with the crankshaft laid in place.

Couple of shots of the layshaft and the flywheels in place (34" diameter)

It's only a display unit, it will not be used for house power as we don't get that many power cuts in the UK, and we have any number of Onan and Villiers-powered gennies around the place to run electrics for a few hours.
