Listeroid Engines / re-visiting the cast iron radiator cooling for the 6/1
« on: February 27, 2011, 04:00:06 PM »
Recently I found several of these radiators.

There were several members that utilised/experimented with this type of hot water home heating radiators to cool their Listers. I would like to hear some updates on the use of these radiators, did it work ok, is anyone still using these or was it a wash so to speak.

General Discussion / Hydro One's Time Of Use pricing
« on: July 20, 2010, 07:00:32 PM »
I used a 20 Amp relay and a commercial timer (stuff I had laying around) to turn my hotwater heater off during the times when the rates will be high and back on when the rates are low.
Although the TOU is not yet in effect here, I have tested it at two hours per day and have not run out of hotwater from my 40 galllon-HWH. That said there is only the Wife and myself and as such might not be worth it for a large family.

Waste Motor Oil / First run on 50% waste crankcase oil
« on: March 28, 2010, 11:34:01 PM »
As of March, 05, 2010 I started running my 6/1 on a diet of 50/50 crankcase oil and #2 furnace oil. I have abt. 20 hrs on the mixed fuel and have not seen any difference in the way it's behaved.  I run it from the original CS. tank with no heating of the mixed fuel, it has so far started without a hitch, with a temperature as low as 21F, electric start of course!! That said, I did remove the head before the start of the mixed fuel and noted the condition of the piston top and the injector. One thing I should mention is that I fumigate with propane on an intermittent basis, there was no prior plan in place with the fumigation of propane and I will continue to do so as I have done in the past.

The low level plan is to run it 10 hrs every week  (not acccounting for power outages) for the rest of the Summer. I will before the snow starts in the Fall remove the head again and check for carbon buildup if any. If at this time there is a carbon problem the rings will also be checked.

Things I want to Buy / looking for a used C201 Isuzu engine
« on: February 04, 2010, 02:11:31 AM »
I need another project to keep this old guy busy.

The plan is to build a second generator with a used Thermo King C201 Isuzu engine.

Any ideas where to find one of these?

General Discussion / First snow storm
« on: December 11, 2009, 03:32:16 PM »
We got snow,

Been snowing here for 2 1/2 days, total so far three feet and expecting more. A few trees down due to the heavysnow load and 50 k wind gust's. Along with that the grid was down for nearly a day, he he.

This where the CS 6/1 5Kw listeroid comes in handy keeps the house warm and the beer cold.

So how is it in your neck of the woods?
