Engines / Starting LT3 after sitting 14 months
« on: October 03, 2022, 01:06:23 PM »
Hello,

My camp in the Louisiana marsh got hit hard by Hurricane Ida last year. I lost my generator shed, but generator was still intact. I haven’t started it since.  What is the best procedure to follow before attempting to crank it?

Thanks a million,

Steve

Lister Based Generators / Leaking exhaust between engine and manifold
« on: December 08, 2013, 11:03:59 PM »
My ST3 has started leaking exhaust from cyl 1 exhaust.  Stupid question: is there supposed to be a gasket located between the engine and the exhaust manifold?  There is currently a 3-4 mm space between the engine and the exhaust manifold.  What is the easiest repair?  Is it bad to run the engine with this leak?

Engines / Which oil should I use?
« on: March 12, 2009, 03:54:19 AM »
I have a Lister ST3.  IT is run in Southern Louisiana to power a camp in the marsh (awesome fishing).  What grade of oil should I use?  I just did an oil change and added 30SAE heavy duty diesel oil.  Should I have used 15W40?  It is usually no colder than 15C when it is started.  In the summer though temps can reach the mid 30C during the hottest times of the day.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Lister Based Generators / ST3 leaking "small" amount of oil
« on: June 12, 2008, 01:01:39 AM »
I have a ST3 Lister that is leaking very small amounts (1 tsp overnight) of oil.  It seems to be coming through the gaskets in several places on the upper side of the motor.  I already have an overhaul gasket set, but was wondering if this would be too much of a job for a nonmechanic like myself.  Do I need to decarbonize the pistons at the same time?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I just recently inherited this machine with an off the grid camp in Southern Louisiana.  It runs great and besides the oil loss and the noise is awesome!

Thanks in advance.
