Listeroid Engines / Parts availability - 10/1
« on: March 17, 2023, 03:54:23 PM »
Does anyone know a good place to source 10/1 parts? Is everything the same as the 6/1 besides the top end?

Generators / Starting over
« on: February 12, 2023, 01:58:38 AM »
I was in the process of collecting all the components needed to build my off grid power system when I ran into a large issue this winter. I had a fire in my shop one night that claimed a lot of my components. I'm still working with insurance to see what I can claim and for how much. So I will be gutting my shop down to the studs and starting over. With this in mind I started thinking about how I want to do my system. Originally I was going to use a unregulated alternator (or two) running off of my 12/2 GM90. Now I'm wondering if I should instead go to AC charging via a inverter charger. The one issue is, I know that some inverter chargers are picky about the power input being "clean". Does anyone have thoughts about what would be the best AC charging setup I could put together with a lister type engine? (this way I could always bypass the inverter charger and send AC current directly to my transfer switch) Or should I stick with the DC charging route directly to my DC load center? Any input is appreciated.

My system was going to be 18kwh lithium battery bank, about 7kw of solar on the roof, make sky blue charger controllers + growatt 6000t inverter charger, 12/2 GM90 running an unregulated alternator (under supervision and using a voltage cutoff device) when needed. All the DC stuff was going to a DC load center and the only AC power would be coming off of the inverter to send to a transfer switch for the house. I was possibly going to put a grid AC input into the inverter charge as a backup when I travel and can't start the engine to charge the batteries on long cloudy weeks in the winter.

I'm pretty much open to any changes and input, because most/all of these components were affected by the fire, smoke, water, or all 3.

Listeroid Engines / Strange sounds
« on: September 14, 2022, 11:18:35 PM »
Hello all,

I finally found some time to put the 12/2 together. I have the bottom and top end all together, just no fuel lines, flywheels, or cooling hooked up. I oiled it up good while assembling, but when I turn it over there is a 2x metallic clank. It seems to occur almost exactly when the number 2 cylinder vales are in their exhaust then intake cycle. It sounds like it may be coming from the camshaft? Any ideas? Is there a normal click clack that I should be hearing when turning it over? I never really turned it over when I got it because there was a little rust in cylinder 1. So I don't really know what is "normal" for sounds.

Bio-diesel Fuel / Favorite source for methanol + potassium hydroxide
« on: February 16, 2022, 06:41:59 AM »
Hello, I have a DI 12/2 I’m kicking around making bio diesel for. A family member runs a restaurant and can get me all the veg oil I want. I’m just trying to find the best sources for methanol and sodium and or potassium hydroxide. Who would have that stuff at a good bulk price?

Listeroid Engines / Auto shut down, less than $100.
« on: February 15, 2022, 01:36:41 PM »
After looking at what Murphy brand auto shutdown components cost, I came up with an idea for an auto shutdown system that cost less than $100 to build. I’ve ordered the parts, just need to assemble when it gets here! It works like this:

My system uses a 48v battery bank and dc charging from my 12/2. The way the auto shutdown will work starts with a low voltage cutoff co trip board from eBay. This component is wired to the battery bank and can be set to close a relay at a certain voltage. For example of the volts are below 54v the relay is open (no current) if it is above 54v it closes (allowing up to 10amps to pass through it from the battery bank). The next component is a step down regular, it turns the 48vdc to 12vdc. Then there is a 3 way switch which has off, and the two on positions send current to a 12v 2” actuator in either polarity so you can move it forward or back. This is hooked to the fuel rack. The last component would be a kill switch for the system that cuts the voltage to the actuator when it is fully retracted. When you want to reset the system simply turn the kill switch back on and use the 3 way switch to extend the actuator back out (then be sure to leave the 3 way switch on in the retract position again). This should work and the components cost less than $100!

Listeroid Engines / Filling pitted spots
« on: February 11, 2022, 11:57:14 PM »
Hello, what is the standard procedure for filling pitting in the castings? After removing the paint and sandblasting my flywheels there is some pretty good pitting in some spots I would like to fill. Do you braze iron into them? JB Weld? Epoxy?

Everything else / Lead acid battery bank confusion
« on: December 16, 2021, 06:57:17 PM »
Hello, last year I built a 24v battery bank that consists of twelve 6v golf cart batteries. I have them in three strings of 4 batteries each. The problem I'm having is, the volts get pretty high pretty fast with a very low rate of charge (maybe 200 watts total). But it won't hold at this higher voltage. It will climb to 29 volts or so with only a few amps being applied. Also, the battery voltage seems to drop farily quickly with only small loads. Any idea why the batteries don't seem to have the umph they should have? They seem weak to me? Or are my charge controllers not doing their job?

Listeroid Engines / Stuck valve guide
« on: December 04, 2021, 06:54:21 PM »
Well I tried to get a valve guide out of the head, one came easily ish. The other won’t budge. The metal seems soft and somewhat brittle because it has crumbled where I was hitting it with the hammer and socket I was using. I’m trying to heat it and tap more but it doesn’t want to go. Any tips?

Listeroid Engines / Flywheel energy

This was an interesting video of someone who added a flywheel to their listeroid 6/1. He’s claiming he can pull a 15kva load, not sure about that but I wonder if this would help with the pulsing on a one lung?

Listeroid Engines / Metro 12/2 rebuild
« on: June 26, 2021, 11:33:57 PM »
Hello everyone, hope you are all doing well. I just picked up my first Listeroid! A 12/2 metro. Upon tearing into it today I noticed that there was some corrosion and strange gew that got into that cylinder and I'm wondering if just cleaning it up and honing it out will do the trick? I'll attach pictures soon. Also, there were mysterious solids in the coolant? I’m thinking someone forgot a paper towel in there or something.
