Original Lister Cs Engines / Molasses rust removal
« on: December 25, 2016, 12:42:41 PM »
If anybody wants to remove rust from rusty Lister parts, mix up a molasses / water mix and throw your rusty parts in. It really works !

I use a strong mix about 1 part molasses  to 4 parts water but 1 to 10 will work but its slower . Molasses is easy to buy from farm stores, its a stock feed supplement .

Lister Based Generators / Lister 40hp
« on: March 21, 2016, 11:47:29 AM »
I was at a farm clearing sale last Sunday, old tractors like a steel wheeled Farmall etc and 40 unrestored stationary engines , some really old petrol Listers . Most of them sold for $100 to $200 . Many of them had parts missing .

There was a old 1940's ? 4 cyl ( or was it 6 cyl ) diesel Lister 40HP driving a big alternator , it was housed in a large shed sitting on the ground . A International bulldozer . I bought a box of NOS oil seals for $10 , must be 50 in the box .

Listeroid Engines / Safety issues
« on: April 26, 2015, 11:08:47 AM »
hi

Has anyone built a safety cage or barrier around their Listeroid ?

The large flywheels are rather dangerous things in a small building.

If anyone fell on top the running wheels , the result would be death or serious injury .

Any thoughts   Mike

Listeroid Engines / Listeroid and Lister parts exchange
« on: February 16, 2015, 07:15:37 AM »
There are always a few original CS Listers for sale over here but the supply of original Dursley spares has dried up .

My question is :

Do the Indian made parts fit a original Dursley CS ?   I refer to the Piston, rings, rod bearings, valves , con rod and other bits

Maybe somebody could make up a list of Indian made parts that do swap over to a Dursley CS

Listeroid Engines / Jkson 6/1 rebuild
« on: January 16, 2015, 10:32:17 AM »
Hi

I thought I would start a new thead as I began to tear down my Jkson today . Firstly , the gib keys just fell out with almost nil effort from the puller . The keys were just sitting there doing nothing  ???

Anyway , the flywheels came of very easily . I measured the shafts and there is a .001" difference in the two sides  ??? One side is 1.9995" the other side is 1.9985" . Indian standards maybe  >:(

I noticed that the gib keyways in the shafts are roughly machined   :-[  Hmmm  I will need to clean these keyways up

cant see any sand or grit, the inside has not been painted

One thing that worries me is, the bore does not have honing marks, I cant see any in that pic .

Hi

I am currently making the concrete base for my listeroid and I am planning on using 15mm bolts/studs  in the concrete . The bolt pattern on my listeroid is 331 mm square , or  13" .

Listeroid Engines / Gib key protruding
« on: November 04, 2014, 08:14:23 AM »
Hi

My gib keys protrude from the hub . Is this OK ? Seems to me that the keys are not all the way into the hub ?

I am planning on pulling down this listeroid , giving it the clean out and check for sand and the rest of the problems

This is a new Listeroid out of the crate .
