General Discussion / Caustic soda stripping tanks
« on: November 18, 2010, 07:56:52 AM »
Do any of you use sodium hydroxide/ lye/ caustic soda tanks?
I’d like to build one for degreasing and paint stripping but need more info.
Does the tank need constant heating? This could be another job for Lister power ;D

General Discussion / Water injection
« on: June 02, 2010, 11:23:04 PM »
Has anyone tried water injection as a means of de-coking stationary engines?
I was thinking along the lines of a fine mist spray of water though the air intake when the engine was hot and at high revs. Maybe just before oil change time.

Original Lister Cs Engines / Lister 7.5 VA
« on: May 10, 2010, 04:43:33 PM »
During my research on types of Lister engines I have discovered the 7.5 VA is similar to my CS 8/1. How many parts are interchangeable and why does the air-cooled engine have a lower horsepower?

Original Lister Cs Engines / Stuck governor?
« on: April 08, 2010, 08:43:06 PM »
Hello all.
I’m after a bit of advice from those who know more than me!
I have only started my 8/1 SOM briefly a few times since I've had it and it's, I think, going up to full revs with no load on.
The governor lever by the oil pump doesn’t move. My understanding is that the engine starts on full revs and then the governor regulates it. If my thinking is correct then my Q is- is the governor stuck and, if so, how do I un-stick it?

       Mark.

General Discussion / Silencer idea
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:51:03 PM »
I’ve had an idea for an underground silencer for Listers ext.
What about feeding the exhaust into an existing foul drain manhole or into the top of an existing soil pipe?
The manhole would be vented on one side by the soil stack and by the main sewer on the other. It would also remove the smell from wvo and soot ext from wmo.
Anyone tried this?

Original Lister Cs Engines / Dating a CS
« on: March 07, 2010, 07:53:33 PM »
Hello all,
I've got an 8/1 CS start-o-matic with the engine plate No. 14548112 and, from looking at the engine dating pages, my engine was made in 1935. Am I correct?
