General Discussion / site down
« on: December 27, 2010, 02:01:59 PM »
i noticed the site was down this morning and checked with the hosting company that told me that we were hogging to much cpu resource. i optimized the tables in hope that will keep them from suspending the site for now. looking at the tables there appears to be about 300mb of informations stored here and we may have to delete some of the older threads.  that or i can move this site to a new server. please leave your thoughts below.

tnx, the admin

Lister Market Place (things for Sale) / ebay fees are insane
« on: December 16, 2010, 12:42:27 AM »
i was looking at the cost of selling a lister cs / genset on ebay... use to be they had a fee structure that got lower percentages the higher the selling price. now it appears they are charging a straight 9 percent no matter how high the price... sooooo... if you sell a genset for $3500 thats 3500 x .09 or $315.00 to sell your item! are they insane?

if you sign up at outlaw auctions you get a $25 site fee credit to your account. Sell a genset for $3500 and the fees come to i believe $12.75   which comes out of your credit leaving you still with a $12.25 credit.... in other words its free!

i recommend the site for anyone wishing to sell anything lister. leave a link here to the item and you will get traffic. i had around 300 hits on the genset and doubt ebay would have done better. if you are worried you wont get a good enough price put a reserve on your item

was on the phone and computer to the hosting company all day..  if we continue to have problems i will start searching for another hosting company... they were doing pretty good.. but the last few weeks seem to have been iffy... so i will explore other options to make sure we dont have a repeat of last fall.

the hosting company this site is with is called hostdepartment,com... whatever you do.. do not sign up with them... i have a new hosting company and have been working at migrating the site and will hopefully get that done this weekend.. there may be  a day or so more for everything to point to its new home after that... then hopefully we will not have these issues....  thank you for your patience

i have been assured that the problems the hosting company was having have been resolved and changes were made so it wont happen again... and if you believe that then i have some nice expensive florida swamp land to sell you.... anyway.. i will be making fresh copies of the site and will be keeping my eyes open for a better hosting company.. until then., pray for the site ;D

General Discussion / threatening the admin
« on: April 06, 2008, 05:35:52 AM »
ok.. i got a threatening letter from a "member" because he wanted a public apology from another "member" and if he didnt get it threatened me and threatened to drag me to court.... my answer is banning him... i dont care who is right or wrong.. new rule.. no threatening the admin. if you cant handle the heat of public discussion go elsewhere.

www.alexa.com rates the internet sites by traffic. i believe the search engines use these rankings on placement for searches. ie if someone looks for lister info.

currently we are rated the 3,888,768 th most popular site on the internet. my thought is if people here went to alexa and downloaded their tool bar (which is a nice feature) then the sites we visit would have more weight. its like all of us signing up to be neilson families (do they still do that?). just a thought if you feel like stuffing the ballot box (could be fun)

Listeroid Engines / cold starting a cold start
« on: January 16, 2006, 11:25:57 AM »
last night a young man and his wife stopped by the farm to look at the 6/1 i have listed here for sale. the engine has sat since it was checked out and put back together in october. the temperature was in the low 20's is my guess and i cranked it in hopes of him being able to hear it run. the injector creaked which was a good sign. i half expected the fuel to have slowly dripped from the tank to have found it empty. it also meant i wouldnt have to rebleed the fuel system... so far so good. after spinning it up to speed i asked him to swtiched the compression release valve. it poofed very slightly and i am sure wondered what sort of idiot i was trying to wake it while it was hibernating. second try same thing. after taking turns cranking for about 9 tries it showed signs of life and we come to the major point of this post.

there is enough friction especially when cold that when the engine fires up if you arent careful, the crank will escape from your hand... heaven help you when this happens. all i could do was warn my visitors to stay out of harms way after about 5 seconds of coming up to speed the handle flew off. looking back i should have hit the fuel shut off, but everyone survived. the engine did settle into a nice easy thumping after about 10 seconds.
