Engines / Re: Crankshaft removal question
« on: May 28, 2009, 09:13:37 AM »
Besided with the crank installed you and your buddy will have "handles" to help you pick it up and move it. ;)

I can just see it now .... an ebay listing trying to sell one slightly use engine with a smashed head.
Watch for top heaviness .... the thing will turn turtle in no time flat.

Listeroid Engines / Re: How to remove the inside portion of the COV ?
« on: April 26, 2009, 08:14:03 PM »
I had to remove this part from a scrap head to use in it's replacement, i tried about everything i have read that everyone is suggesting. And in the death had to use a power saw, even with 30% of the head out of the way it would still not move. it took the removal of over 50% to get it unstuck. After seeing how badly it was stuck in with carbon i doubt it could have ever been removed any other way.  Mine had probably been in for over 50 years though.

If you want to cool your intake air and leave the intake inside the enclosure for noise reasons, bring the pipe out to an intercooler with a fan blowing on it and back in to the engine. Easy to monitor and control the intake temperature. You can also have the venturie and breather pipe outside to keep an close eye on the content going into the intake from the engine.

Do you plan to remove the key with the broken head or just replace the one and give it a try ?

As Quinnf says check Gib key width and crank and flywheel slot width, whilst they may be wedged in tight the flywheel may still rotate back and forth  against the sides of the gib key.
