I agree. About a year and a half ago I shipped (via DHX) a DES 8/1 and gen head from Kansas and it was less than $500 to my door. It's probably gone up since then.. His ads and feedback leave much to be desired for sure. I'd love to fly over and see it, but it looks like I missed out.  :-[

I called him today and it turns out he is on Kauai. I forgot there's a Waimea on more than one island.  ::)
A potential buyer on Kauai is going to check it out and if it doesn't sell I hope to get a call.

BTW, last year after reading this thread  http://listerengine.com/smf/index.php?topic=5843.0 I called
Reresa Diesel in South Africa and they gave me this same guy's number. I was curious about shipping
at the time, so I called him. Shipping was pretty steep, so I didn't pursue a Lister from Reresa.

I don't have a thermostat or a valve but use an adjustable thermostatic switch like this one:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hda-3653

I noticed the return hose (from the radiator) feels significantly cooler than the top hose.
Isn't the difference between the two supposed to be fairly close? Like 10 degrees? Originally
I had the sensor right below the intake of the radiator. Then I moved it about 1/4 way down.
It seemed to make a difference, but not enough. Has anyone with one of these adjustable
switches found a sweet spot on the radiator? I am going to continue lowering the sensor in
the hopes of getting a higher temperature in the return hose. If that doesn't work, I am leaning
towards installing a valve on the return hose instead of a thermostat.

I pulled the crankcase door to clean and check things out in there and to my horror the middle and rear big end bearings were shot.
Why oh why didn't I check this first? :-\ Both of them could move. The middle was the worst and the journal looks pooched.

Now I wondering if its worth taking apart to see if the crank and rods are good enough for an overhaul.

You could try something like this: http://www.aluminumrepair.com/
It would polish up too.

Removing the paint will expose all the casting imperfections. Like this:

Could it be consuming the blowby as fuel thus decreasing diesel usage?
