Hi Bolens, you really need to give to give some of the clever dudes here a little more information. I am guessing that you have an alternator/generator built by Brush. These are interesting in that they built a generator, a dynamo and a starter motor all into the same unit.

My initial thought is that if it is only pumping out 12 volts, when it should be doing 110/240 volts, you have a wiring problem or are measuring the output from the battery charging circuit.

There are a great many possible issues please provide more information.

Hi Bolens

Put pics in "atachments", under 1MB, ~920kb (shrink with MSOffice pic manager - or other - resize and crop)

I think the rear plate with all the brushgear can be rotated on that model You could try moving it a few degrees and see if there are any changes to output.

If you can find a schematic for that head I might be able to suggest troubleshooting via volt-ohm meter.  Checking continuity of output windings and field coil are one place to start.  Flashing (applying 12V) to the field coil on a long out of service unit is often required.  The regulation circuitry may have some failed components too, but I have no experience with this one.  Worth a trip to your local generator repair shop if you lack the skills, but finding the schematic may be essential for them as well.

Cheers

Ajaffa put up a circuit which I think applies to your generator in a post started by Onzlow on Nov 21-2018.

Hi Bolens, there are two basic types of generator, they both involve spinning a copper winding inside of another set of windings. In one type, the electricity generated is taken from the rotating windings, in the other type the electricity is taken from the stationary windings. Without a lot more information and photographs it is very difficult to determine which type you have and to offer any advice as to how to to flash the generator. Could you also please provide some information on how the voltage is regulated, I would expect that it probably has an old selenium rectifier and wire wound rheostats.

More info please.

Bolens

Is there a top box on this generator?  If so please take a picture of the top box internals.  In your first picture I can just make out a commutator that will be the DC power to the field windings.  If you are lucky it might even be a set of starter windings.  We need more clearer pictures to be able to decipher what you got.
